Post-circumcision care

Hello doctor, on the 20th I went to the hospital for a follow-up appointment.
The doctor said that the left half of the nail was embedded too deeply, so a minor surgery was performed to remove it and then it was sutured.
I would like to ask the following questions:
1.
Is it normal for there to be swelling under the frenulum of the glans?
2.
The area of the foreskin from the suture site to the glans is red and feels like it's burned, but the suture site appears normal.
3.
There are several blisters on the upper part of the glans that look a bit yellow.
4.
The upper part of the glans appears redder than the area near the urethra.
5.
Sometimes after applying the medication prescribed by the doctor, it feels a bit hot.
6.
Should I avoid sitting if I can lie down, and avoid standing if I can sit?
7.
Occasionally, my bladder feels warm.
8.
How long is the recovery period expected to last?
Thank you for your assistance, doctor.

Nǐ hǎ, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2024/04/25

Hello: 1.
Is swelling of the frenulum under the glans normal? --> It is normal if there is no redness.
2.
The area of the foreskin from the suture to the glans is red and feels like a burn, but the suture site appears normal.
--> It should be kept clean and dry.
3.
There are several blisters on the upper part of the glans that look a bit yellow.
--> Could this be caused by friction from the dressing? 4.
The upper part of the glans appears redder than the area near the urethra.
--> Keep it clean and dry.
5.
Sometimes after applying the medication prescribed by the doctor, it feels a bit hot.
--> This is generally not expected.
6.
Should I lie down instead of sitting, and sit instead of standing? --> After 2-3 days post-surgery, normal activity should resume (follow the doctor's advice).
7.
Sometimes the bladder feels warm.
--> This is unrelated; if symptoms persist, please seek medical attention and drink plenty of water.
8.
How long will the recovery period take? --> Generally, any wound takes more than a week to heal.
Based on personal experience with foreskin surgery, even after the wound heals, there may still be some swelling, and it usually takes a few weeks to return to normal (follow the surgeon's advice).
Wishing you good health.

Post-circumcision recovery can be a concerning time for many patients, especially when complications arise. Based on your questions, I will address each concern and provide a general overview of the healing timeline and common issues that may occur after circumcision.

1. Swelling of the Frenulum: It is not uncommon for the frenulum (the band of tissue on the underside of the penis) to swell after circumcision, especially if there was manipulation during the procedure. This swelling can be a normal part of the healing process, but if it persists or worsens, it may be worth consulting your doctor.

2. Redness of the Skin: The redness you are observing in the area of the remaining foreskin can resemble a burn, which may be due to irritation or inflammation. This can occur as the skin heals and is often temporary. However, if the redness is accompanied by increased pain, discharge, or other signs of infection, you should reach out to your healthcare provider.

3. Blisters on the Glans: The presence of small yellowish blisters on the glans (the head of the penis) can be alarming. These may be a result of irritation or a reaction to the surgical procedure. While some blisters can be normal, especially if they are not painful or leaking, it is essential to monitor them. If they increase in number, become painful, or show signs of infection, you should seek medical advice.

4. Increased Redness at the Glans: It is common for the glans to appear redder than the surrounding areas during the healing process. This is typically due to increased blood flow to the area as it heals. However, if the redness is severe or accompanied by other symptoms, it may indicate a problem that requires medical attention.

5. Sensation of Heat After Applying Cream: The sensation of warmth or burning after applying a topical cream like Lihfu (a type of ointment) can occur, especially if the skin is sensitive or irritated. If this sensation is mild and temporary, it may not be a cause for concern. However, if it persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, you should consult your doctor.

6. Positioning During Recovery: Generally, it is advisable to avoid pressure on the surgical site. Lying down is often more comfortable than sitting or standing for extended periods, especially in the early days of recovery. However, gentle movement is encouraged to promote circulation and healing.

7. Burning Sensation in the Bladder: A burning sensation in the bladder can occur post-surgery, possibly due to irritation from the catheter (if one was used) or from the healing process. If this sensation persists or is accompanied by pain during urination, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider.

8. Healing Timeline: The recovery period after circumcision can vary from person to person. Generally, initial healing takes about 1 to 2 weeks, during which swelling and discomfort should gradually decrease. Complete healing may take several weeks, and it is essential to follow your doctor's post-operative care instructions closely.

In summary, while many of the symptoms you are experiencing can be normal parts of the healing process, it is crucial to remain vigilant for signs of infection or complications. If you have any doubts or if symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. Proper care and monitoring during recovery will help ensure a smooth healing process.
