Can I get pregnant?
Hello doctor, I have a question.
On the night of May 18 and the morning of May 19, I rubbed against my girlfriend's intimate area, but there was no penetration and no ejaculation.
Currently, she hasn't taken any emergency contraception.
Today is the 22nd, and her menstrual cycle is not very regular; previously, it was on November 1, December 10, and in January she seemed to have missed it, then February 12, March 18, and April 17.
This month, it's already the 22nd and her period still hasn't arrived.
She started experiencing diarrhea on the 19th, which lasted for three days.
She is very worried about whether she might be pregnant, or if this is just a sign of her period approaching, or if it's due to stress.
Could you please help clarify this for us? Thank you.
🙏

The likelihood of pregnancy should be low; just observe for now.
Wait another two weeks, and if your period still hasn't arrived, it's advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

It sounds like you are experiencing a lot of anxiety regarding the possibility of pregnancy, especially given the recent intimate contact with your girlfriend. Let's break down the situation and address your concerns regarding pregnancy risks and symptoms.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that pregnancy can occur even without penetration or ejaculation inside the vagina. Pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, and if it comes into contact with the vaginal area, there is a potential risk of pregnancy, albeit lower than with full intercourse. Given that you had contact on May 18 and 19, and considering your girlfriend's menstrual cycle is irregular, it is possible that she could be pregnant, especially since her period is now late.
Regarding her menstrual cycle, you mentioned that her periods have not been consistent. Irregular cycles can make it more challenging to predict ovulation and the timing of her next period. Stress, anxiety, and changes in routine can also affect menstrual cycles, potentially causing delays. The fact that she has not had her period by May 22, which is typically when she would expect it based on her previous cycles, is noteworthy.
The symptoms she is experiencing, such as diarrhea, could be attributed to a variety of factors, including stress or anxiety about the possibility of being pregnant. Stress can lead to gastrointestinal issues, which might explain the diarrhea. However, some women do experience gastrointestinal symptoms in early pregnancy, although it is not a definitive sign.
To determine if she is pregnant, the most reliable step would be to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced during pregnancy. It is recommended to wait until at least the first day of her missed period for the most accurate result, but some sensitive tests can detect pregnancy a few days before a missed period.
If the pregnancy test is positive, it is important for her to schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider to confirm the pregnancy and discuss the next steps. If the test is negative and her period still does not arrive, she should consult a healthcare professional to explore other potential reasons for the delay.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given the circumstances, the best course of action is to take a pregnancy test. Regardless of the outcome, if she continues to experience symptoms or if her period does not arrive, seeking medical advice is essential. It’s also important to communicate openly with each other about your concerns and feelings during this time. Stress and anxiety can significantly impact both physical and emotional well-being, so addressing these feelings together can be beneficial.
