Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) transmission
Hello Doctor, I recently engaged the services of a foreign sex worker and used a condom throughout the entire process.
During the encounter, I was asked for a wet kiss.
However, due to a lack of sleep in the past few days, I have a large sore on the inside of my lower lip.
The wet kiss lasted about ten seconds, and during that time, a significant amount of saliva came into contact with the sore.
I am a bit worried about the possibility of contracting any sexually transmitted infections.
Thank you for your response.

1.
Most sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are commonly found in the perineal area, with another frequent site being the oral cavity.
Engaging in oral sex without proper protection, such as a condom, can certainly increase the risk of acquiring STIs.
2.
In addition to common infections like syphilis and HIV, herpes and gonorrhea can also occur in the oral cavity.
Therefore, if there are any concerns, it is advisable to conduct a self-assessment or seek further consultation and testing at a nearby healthcare facility.

When it comes to the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) through kissing, especially in the context of having an injury on the lips, it is important to understand the risks involved. Kissing, particularly deep or wet kissing, can potentially transmit certain infections, but the risk of contracting HIV or other STDs through saliva is generally low. However, the presence of an open wound or sore can increase the risk of transmission.
In your situation, where you engaged in a wet kiss with a sex worker while having a significant injury on your lip, there are a few factors to consider. First, while saliva does contain some pathogens, the concentration of HIV in saliva is much lower than in blood, semen, or vaginal fluids. Therefore, the likelihood of contracting HIV through kissing is minimal, even if the other person is HIV positive. However, if there is an open wound, the risk can increase slightly because the virus can enter the bloodstream through the broken skin.
Other STDs, such as herpes, syphilis, or gonorrhea, can also be transmitted through oral contact. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is particularly notable because it can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, even if there are no visible sores. If the sex worker had an active herpes infection, there is a possibility of transmission, especially if their saliva came into contact with your open wound.
Given your concern about the potential for infection, it is advisable to monitor your symptoms closely. If you notice any unusual signs, such as sores, rashes, or flu-like symptoms, it would be prudent to seek medical attention. Testing for STDs, including HIV, can provide peace of mind. The window period for accurate HIV testing can vary, but it is generally recommended to wait at least 10 days for an initial test, with follow-up testing at three months for conclusive results.
In summary, while the risk of contracting STDs through kissing is generally low, the presence of an open wound can increase that risk. It is essential to be vigilant about any symptoms and to consider getting tested if you have concerns about potential exposure. Always practice safe sex and communicate openly with partners about sexual health to minimize risks in the future.
