Brown discharge
Hello, Doctor.
My last menstrual period was on May 8, and on May 25, I noticed brown discharge.
Since I had a pap smear scheduled for May 27, I asked the doctor about this situation.
After performing an ultrasound, the doctor said my uterus looked normal and that it was likely ovulation bleeding, so they prescribed me a three-day course of hemostatic capsules.
However, after taking them, the brown discharge actually increased, so I called the doctor on May 28.
The doctor advised me to continue taking the capsules and to return for a follow-up if the discharge persisted.
I would like to ask: 1.
Is it normal for the discharge to increase after taking the hemostatic capsules, or should it decrease? Also, the discharge has become a darker red.
2.
My menstrual periods have been very irregular in the past, and I once went nearly a year without a period, requiring medication from a gynecologist to regulate it.
When I took progesterone (from a direct sales product), my periods became regular, and I have since had two children.
Recently, I just finished the progesterone; could this be the reason for the discharge? Thank you for your assistance with these questions.

Hello, it is normal to reduce or stop the medication, especially since you haven't had your period for a long time.
I recommend getting a blood test to check your hormone levels.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Understanding brown discharge can be a source of concern for many women, and it often raises questions about underlying health issues. Based on the information provided, it appears that you are experiencing brown discharge, which can be linked to various factors, including hormonal fluctuations, ovulation, and even stress or lifestyle changes.
1. Brown Discharge After Taking Medication: It is not uncommon for women to notice changes in their discharge after starting a new medication, such as the hemostatic agent you mentioned (断血炎胶囊). While some women may experience a reduction in discharge, others may find that their discharge increases or changes in color, particularly if the medication affects hormonal levels. Brown discharge typically indicates older blood that has taken longer to exit the body, which can happen during ovulation or at the end of a menstrual period. If the discharge is becoming darker or more abundant, it may be a sign that your body is responding to the medication in a way that is not typical for you. It is essential to monitor this change and communicate with your healthcare provider, especially if the discharge persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain or unusual odor.
2. Irregular Menstrual Cycles and Hormonal Influence: Your history of irregular menstrual cycles and the use of hormonal treatments, such as progesterone (黄体素), can significantly impact your current situation. Hormonal imbalances can lead to various symptoms, including irregular bleeding or discharge. If you have recently stopped taking progesterone, it is possible that your body is adjusting to the absence of this hormone, which could lead to changes in your menstrual cycle and discharge patterns. Hormonal fluctuations can cause the endometrial lining to shed irregularly, resulting in brown discharge or spotting between periods.
Additionally, stress and lifestyle factors, such as lack of sleep or significant changes in weight, can also contribute to hormonal imbalances and irregular menstrual cycles. It is crucial to consider these factors when evaluating your symptoms.
In summary, brown discharge can be a normal occurrence related to ovulation or hormonal changes, but it can also indicate underlying issues that may require further investigation. If the discharge continues or worsens, or if you experience any additional symptoms, it is advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They may recommend further tests or adjustments to your treatment plan to help regulate your menstrual cycle and address any concerns you may have. Remember, open communication with your healthcare provider is key to managing your reproductive health effectively.
