Testicular issues
Hello, doctor.
In the past few days, I have been gently examining my testicles for any abnormalities.
I feel that everything is generally fine, but after the examination, I started experiencing occasional sharp and dull pain in my testicles, which is not very pronounced.
However, as I continued to squeeze, the dull pain became more frequent.
Sometimes, I also feel something unusual in my lower abdomen.
I'm not sure what the issue could be.
Occasionally, when I touch certain areas (like behind the scrotum), it hurts more, so I have been particularly careful not to bump my scrotum while walking.
Interestingly, I feel much better after waking up from sleep.
There is no redness or swelling in appearance, and when I palpate my testicles, they don't feel hard; both sides have a similar firmness.
I am planning to seek medical attention, but I hope to have a general understanding of my situation first.

More Info
Testicular pain can be a concerning symptom, and it is important to understand its potential causes and when to seek medical help. The discomfort you are experiencing, characterized by intermittent sharp and dull pain in the testicles and lower abdomen, could be attributed to several factors.
Possible Causes of Testicular Pain
1. Epididymitis: This is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that stores and carries sperm. It can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or urinary tract infections (UTIs). Symptoms often include swelling, redness, and pain in the affected testicle.
2. Orchitis: This is inflammation of one or both testicles, which can occur due to viral or bacterial infections. Mumps is a common viral cause, especially in individuals who have not been vaccinated.
3. Testicular Torsion: This is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms include sudden, severe pain and swelling. This condition requires immediate medical attention to prevent loss of the testicle.
4. Inguinal Hernia: This occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. It can cause discomfort in the groin and testicular area, especially when lifting or straining.
5. Trauma or Injury: Any direct trauma to the testicles can lead to pain and discomfort. This could be from sports, accidents, or even vigorous self-examination.
6. Varicocele: This is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, which can cause a dull ache or discomfort, particularly after prolonged standing or physical activity.
7. Testicular Cancer: While less common, testicular cancer can present as a lump or swelling in the testicle, and it may cause pain or discomfort.
When to Seek Medical Help
It is crucial to seek medical attention if you experience any of the following:
- Sudden, severe pain in the testicle.
- Swelling or redness in the scrotum.
- Pain accompanied by fever, nausea, or vomiting.
- A lump or mass in the testicle.
- Pain that persists or worsens over time.
Initial Steps Before Visiting a Doctor
While waiting for your medical appointment, consider the following:
- Avoid Manipulation: Refrain from excessive handling or squeezing of the testicles, as this may exacerbate the pain.
- Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, may help alleviate discomfort.
- Rest: Avoid strenuous activities that may aggravate the pain.
- Ice Application: Applying a cold pack wrapped in a cloth to the affected area may help reduce swelling and numb the pain.
Conclusion
Understanding the potential causes of testicular pain can help you communicate effectively with your healthcare provider. Given your symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment. Early intervention is key, especially in cases like testicular torsion or infections that may require urgent care. Remember, your health is paramount, and addressing these symptoms promptly can lead to better outcomes.
