The skin may itch?
Hello~~~ Recently, my skin has been itchy, and there are red, swollen bumps appearing, mostly on my hands and feet.
What could be the reason for this??? If that's not clear, could you recommend a dermatologist in Kaohsiung County or Kaohsiung City? Also, my skin tends to be dry, and I have been applying lotion after showering (consistently), but it doesn't seem to improve the dryness.
What methods can I use to improve this??? Thank you~~~ ^^

Online diagnosis is not possible; you may visit a hospital or clinic with a dermatologist.
Veterans General Hospital, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital are all suitable options.
If lotion is ineffective for dryness, you can switch to a cream with better moisturizing properties, or consult a dermatologist to address your dry skin issues and get product recommendations.

More Info
Itchy skin, particularly when accompanied by redness and swelling, can be a frustrating and uncomfortable experience. The symptoms you describe, especially the appearance of red, swollen areas on your hands and feet, may indicate a condition known as dermatitis, which can be triggered by various factors including dry skin, allergens, irritants, or even underlying health issues.
Causes of Itchy Skin
1. Dry Skin (Xerosis): This is one of the most common causes of itchy skin, especially in colder climates where humidity levels drop. When the skin loses moisture, it can become dry, flaky, and itchy. This is particularly prevalent during winter months or in dry environments.
2. Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): This chronic condition often manifests as itchy, inflamed skin. It can be exacerbated by environmental factors such as cold weather, which can lead to increased dryness.
3. Allergic Reactions: Contact dermatitis can occur when your skin comes into contact with allergens or irritants, leading to localized redness, swelling, and itching.
4. Infections: Fungal or bacterial infections can also cause itchy skin. Conditions like athlete's foot or ringworm are common examples.
5. Systemic Conditions: Sometimes, itchy skin can be a sign of an underlying health issue, such as liver disease, kidney disease, or thyroid problems.
Remedies for Dry and Itchy Skin
1. Moisturizing: It’s crucial to apply a good quality moisturizer immediately after bathing while your skin is still damp. This helps to lock in moisture. Look for products that contain ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or ceramides, which are effective in hydrating the skin.
2. Avoid Hot Showers: Hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, exacerbating dryness. Opt for lukewarm water instead, and limit the duration of your showers.
3. Gentle Cleansing: Use mild, fragrance-free soaps or body washes. Harsh soaps can irritate the skin and lead to further dryness.
4. Humidifiers: Using a humidifier in your home can help maintain moisture in the air, which can be beneficial during dry winter months.
5. Topical Treatments: If over-the-counter moisturizers are not effective, consider using topical corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and itching. However, these should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
6. Avoid Scratching: Scratching can worsen the condition and lead to skin damage or infection. Keeping your nails short and wearing gloves at night can help prevent scratching.
7. Consult a Dermatologist: If your symptoms persist or worsen, it’s important to consult a dermatologist. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatments tailored to your specific condition.
Conclusion
In summary, itchy skin can arise from various causes, with dryness being a primary factor, especially in colder climates. Implementing a consistent skincare routine that includes moisturizing and gentle cleansing can significantly improve your skin's condition. If symptoms persist, seeking professional medical advice is essential for proper diagnosis and treatment.
As for recommendations for dermatologists in Kaohsiung, I suggest checking local medical directories or health care facilities for qualified dermatologists who can provide personalized care for your skin concerns.
