Is it possible to be pregnant in this situation?
Hello doctor, I have a question that has been bothering me for a month.
My girlfriend had a major exam at the end of March and was under a lot of stress.
Her menstrual cycle starts on the 27th of each month and lasts for 5 days.
In March, she mentioned that her period might be irregular.
At the end of February, her cycle was normal, but around the 16th or 17th of March, she noticed some spotting.
I looked up some information and thought it might be ovulation bleeding, so we had intimate contact on the 17th and again on the 31st.
By April 15th, her period still hadn't arrived, so we bought a pregnancy test, which came back negative.
Today is the 20th.
What does this situation indicate? Is she pregnant or could it be due to her health issues? Also, how much would it cost to get checked at the hospital? Thank you, Doctor.

Hello, I recommend going to the hospital for an examination.
If it is confirmed that you are not pregnant, medication can be prescribed to induce menstruation, to avoid affecting both of your mood and daily life.
If you go to Hsinchu Municipal Hospital, the cost will be around two hundred NT dollars (covered by health insurance).
You can consult Dr.
Cheng Jin-He at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hsinchu Municipal Hospital.

Stress can significantly impact a woman's menstrual cycle and overall reproductive health. In your girlfriend's case, it seems that her menstrual cycle has been affected by the stress of her recent exams. Stress can lead to hormonal imbalances, which may cause irregularities in the menstrual cycle, such as delayed periods or unexpected bleeding.
The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones, including estrogen and progesterone. When a person experiences high levels of stress, the body produces cortisol, a hormone that can disrupt the normal hormonal balance. This disruption can lead to changes in the menstrual cycle, including delayed periods, missed periods, or even changes in the flow and duration of menstruation. In your girlfriend's situation, the stress from her exams could very well be the reason for her irregular cycle and the absence of her expected period.
Regarding the spotting you mentioned around the 16th or 17th of March, it is possible that this was ovulation bleeding, which can occur in some women during their ovulation phase. However, it is also important to note that stress can cause various forms of bleeding or spotting that may not be related to the menstrual cycle.
As for the pregnancy test results, it is reassuring that the tests have come back negative. Home pregnancy tests are generally reliable when used correctly, especially if taken after a missed period. However, if your girlfriend's period continues to be delayed, it may be advisable for her to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation. A healthcare professional can perform a more sensitive blood test to confirm whether or not she is pregnant and can also assess any underlying issues that may be contributing to her irregular cycle.
In terms of costs for medical examinations, this can vary widely depending on the healthcare provider, location, and whether or not you have insurance. A visit to a gynecologist for a consultation and possible blood tests may range from $100 to $300 or more, depending on the services provided. It is always best to check with the specific clinic or hospital for their pricing and whether they accept insurance.
In conclusion, stress can indeed affect your girlfriend's menstrual cycle and may be a contributing factor to her current situation. It is important for her to take care of her mental and physical health during this time. Encouraging her to manage stress through relaxation techniques, exercise, and open communication about her feelings can be beneficial. If her symptoms persist or worsen, seeking medical advice is essential to rule out any other potential health issues.
