Confusion
Hello, doctor! When I was watching adult films with my classmates, one of them mentioned that if ejaculation is in a spray form, it's normal, but if it flows out, I should see a doctor.
Is this true? How can I tell if I'm spraying or flowing? Thank you, doctor.

Hello: Regarding your question, I believe that ejaculation can occur in a "spraying" manner when the volume is high or when there is a higher level of arousal.
Conversely, if the ejaculate volume is low (due to frequent ejaculation leading to insufficient storage, among other factors), it may present as a "flowing" manner.
Regardless of the method, I consider both to be normal, so there is no need to worry too much.
As for the actors in adult films, many of their performances are deliberately exaggerated for visual effect, and some even use medications to achieve extreme sensory stimulation; therefore, I personally strongly oppose comparing one's own experiences to those depicted in adult films, as this is inaccurate.
These films are often edited or digitally enhanced for the purpose of entertainment, not education, and they are not meant to be imitated.
For example, when you see couples kissing in the rain in movies, it looks incredibly romantic, but have you ever tried it? I can assure you it is not romantic at all.
Whether you ejaculate in a spraying or flowing manner, I think it is not important.
If you really want to know, the only suggestion I can think of is to perhaps use masturbation along with a V8 camera to record it and then watch it later.
However, remember not to upload it online, as that could lead to legal issues.
This is a response from Dr.
Hsu Wei-Kai, Director of Urology at Taitung Hospital, Department of Health.

Ejaculation is a complex physiological process that can vary significantly among individuals. The distinction between "spray" and "flow" during ejaculation is often discussed in informal contexts, but it is important to understand the underlying anatomy and physiology to address your concerns accurately.
When a male reaches orgasm, the process of ejaculation occurs, which involves the expulsion of semen from the penis. This process is typically divided into two phases: emission and expulsion. During the emission phase, sperm from the testicles and seminal fluid from the seminal vesicles and prostate gland are mixed and transported into the urethra. The expulsion phase is characterized by rhythmic contractions of the pelvic muscles, which propel the semen out of the urethra.
The term "spray" generally refers to a forceful expulsion of semen, which can create a more pronounced and noticeable ejaculation. This is often associated with a higher level of arousal and can be influenced by factors such as the intensity of sexual stimulation, the individual's level of excitement, and overall sexual health. On the other hand, "flow" may describe a more subdued or less forceful release of semen, which can occur for various reasons, including lower arousal levels, fatigue, or even certain medical conditions.
It is essential to note that variations in ejaculation can be entirely normal. Factors such as hydration, frequency of ejaculation, and individual anatomy can all influence the characteristics of ejaculate. For instance, some men may experience a more forceful ejaculation after a period of abstinence, while others may notice a decrease in force with frequent ejaculation.
However, if you are experiencing significant changes in your ejaculation patterns, such as a sudden decrease in volume, changes in consistency, or discomfort during ejaculation, it may be worth consulting a healthcare professional. Conditions such as retrograde ejaculation (where semen enters the bladder instead of exiting through the urethra), hormonal imbalances, or issues with the prostate can affect ejaculation and may require medical attention.
In summary, the distinction between "spray" and "flow" is not a definitive indicator of health or normalcy. If you are concerned about your ejaculation or notice any unusual symptoms, it is advisable to seek guidance from a healthcare provider, such as a urologist. They can perform a thorough evaluation, discuss your symptoms in detail, and provide personalized advice based on your specific situation. Remember, open communication with a healthcare professional is key to addressing any concerns you may have regarding sexual health.
