Skin problems
I have noticed 2 to 3 raised bumps in my genital area, approximately 0.5 cm in size, which are very painful when pressed.
Some of them feel itchy.
I've had these since I was 15 years old.
What could they be? Additionally, I have developed some bumps on my buttocks; is this due to my skin type or because the area where I sit is dirty? Is it sufficient to just apply medication to the bumps on my buttocks? I have scarring from scratching them previously.
If I want to treat this, what would the estimated cost be? Which hospital would be best to visit? (I live in Kaohsiung.)

Hello: In response to your question, your description may indicate folliculitis.
If the same lesion persists for a longer duration and varies in size, it could be an epidermoid cyst.
Folliculitis on the buttocks is often caused by prolonged sitting in warm conditions, and it is not necessarily due to a dirty seating area.
However, for an accurate diagnosis, please consult a physician in person.
If the acne scars are due to hyperpigmentation, generally, as long as new lesions are controlled and do not develop further, the existing lesions can gradually improve.

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing a combination of skin issues in the groin area and on your buttocks, which can be quite uncomfortable and concerning. Based on your description, the painful bumps you feel in the groin area could be a few different things, including folliculitis, cysts, or even ingrown hairs. Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles, often caused by bacteria or irritation, and can lead to red, itchy bumps that may be painful when pressed. Cysts, on the other hand, are closed pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid, pus, or other material, and they can also be painful if they become inflamed or infected.
The bumps on your buttocks, which you referred to as "豆豆" (which translates to "bumps" or "pimples"), could also be related to folliculitis or acne. Acne can occur in areas where there is a lot of friction, sweat, or oil, and sitting for long periods can exacerbate this condition. It's important to note that having these bumps does not necessarily mean that your sitting area is dirty; rather, it could be a result of your skin type, hygiene practices, or even the clothing you wear.
Regarding the scarring you mentioned, it’s common for acne or other skin conditions to leave behind scars, especially if the bumps were scratched or picked at. These scars can be treated, but the cost and type of treatment can vary widely depending on the severity of the scarring and the treatment options you choose. Treatments can range from topical creams to laser therapy, and it’s best to consult with a dermatologist to discuss the most suitable options for your specific situation.
For your concerns, I recommend visiting a dermatologist who can provide a thorough examination and diagnosis. In Kaohsiung, there are several reputable hospitals and clinics where you can seek help. Look for a dermatology department in a general hospital or a specialized skin clinic. They will be able to assess your skin condition, provide a proper diagnosis, and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
In the meantime, here are some general tips to manage your skin issues:
1. Avoid Picking or Scratching: This can worsen inflammation and lead to scarring.
2. Keep the Area Clean: Use a gentle cleanser and avoid harsh soaps that can irritate the skin.
3. Wear Loose Clothing: This can help reduce friction and irritation in the groin and buttock areas.
4. Consider Over-the-Counter Treatments: Products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can help with acne and folliculitis.
5. Moisturize: Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated without clogging pores.
If you experience persistent pain, itching, or if the bumps change in appearance, it’s crucial to seek medical attention promptly. A dermatologist will be able to provide you with the best course of action, including potential treatments for both the bumps and any scarring you may have.
