How long after a chemical peel can I have a mole removal?
I had a chemical peel yesterday, and one of my acne spots has scabbed over today because I picked at it after the peel.
It looks a bit dark...
I'm worried it might turn into a mole.
How long after the chemical peel can I have moles treated? If I have flat moles, will I need multiple sessions to remove them?

Dr. Zheng Lizhen reply Dermatology
Hello: After acne scabs over, it will not turn into a mole; at most, it may result in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
After about two weeks of using alpha hydroxy acids, you can start treating moles.
Even for flat moles, the number of treatments required can only be determined after assessment, as the depth of each mole varies.
Sincerely, Dr.

More Info
After undergoing an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) peel, it's essential to allow your skin adequate time to heal before considering any additional procedures, such as the removal of skin tags or moles. Generally, it is advisable to wait at least 1-2 weeks after an AHA peel before performing any other skin treatments. This waiting period allows your skin to recover from the exfoliation and reduces the risk of irritation or complications.
When you undergo an AHA peel, the outer layer of your skin is exfoliated, which can leave your skin sensitive and vulnerable. If you notice that a pimple has scabbed over after the peel, it is crucial not to pick at it, as this can lead to scarring or infection. The black appearance you see may be a scab or dried blood, which is part of the natural healing process. If the scab falls off naturally, it should reveal new skin underneath. However, if you are concerned about the appearance of a mole or skin tag, it is best to consult with a dermatologist.
Regarding the removal of skin tags or moles, the number of treatments required can vary depending on the size and type of the lesion. Flat moles may require multiple sessions for complete removal, especially if they are larger or deeper. A dermatologist can assess the lesions and recommend the best course of action, which may include cryotherapy, laser removal, or surgical excision.
It is also important to consider the condition of your skin after the AHA peel. If your skin is still red, irritated, or peeling, it is best to postpone any additional procedures until your skin has fully healed. During this healing phase, focus on gentle skincare, including moisturizing and sun protection, to support your skin's recovery.
In summary, after an AHA peel, wait at least 1-2 weeks before considering the removal of skin tags or moles. Consult with a dermatologist for personalized advice and treatment options. Avoid picking at scabs or lesions, and prioritize gentle skincare to promote healing.
