Skin redness and swelling?

I suddenly developed small bumps on my cheeks.
They feel rough to the touch, are a bit itchy, red, and have a warm sensation.
Recently, I have been drinking rose tea and a beverage made with California plums for three consecutive days.
I had been drinking coffee regularly for a while but stopped recently.
For the past three days, I have been taking acne medication in the morning and evening.
However, since these bumps appeared on my cheeks yesterday, I haven't applied any acne medication or taken my medication, nor have I used any skincare products.
I don't have many acne lesions; I only went to see a doctor after developing two or three due to staying up late.
I'm unsure what is happening with my cheeks.
What could be the issue?

More Info

Sudden facial redness and the appearance of small bumps can be concerning, especially when accompanied by sensations of heat and itchiness. Based on your description, several potential causes could explain your symptoms, and understanding these can help you find appropriate solutions.

Possible Causes of Sudden Facial Redness and Bumps
1. Allergic Reaction: One of the most common reasons for sudden redness and bumps on the face is an allergic reaction. This could be triggered by something you consumed, such as the rose tea or the California plum drink you mentioned. Allergies can manifest as hives, which are raised, itchy welts that can appear suddenly and may feel warm to the touch.

2. Acne or Rosacea: Given your history of acne, it’s possible that the bumps you are experiencing are related to acne flare-ups. Rosacea, a chronic skin condition characterized by facial redness and sometimes bumps, could also be a factor, especially if you have a history of facial flushing or sensitivity.

3. Contact Dermatitis: If you have recently changed your skincare routine or stopped using certain products, your skin might react to the absence of those products or to new ones. Contact dermatitis can cause redness, bumps, and irritation.

4. Heat Rash: If you have been in a warm environment or have been sweating, you might be experiencing a heat rash. This condition occurs when sweat ducts become blocked, leading to small, itchy bumps.

5. Medication Side Effects: Since you mentioned taking acne medication, it’s important to consider that some medications can cause skin reactions. If you recently started or changed your medication, this could be a contributing factor.

Recommendations for Management
1. Avoid Irritants: For now, it would be wise to avoid any potential irritants, including new skincare products, harsh cleansers, and makeup. Stick to gentle, fragrance-free products to minimize irritation.

2. Cold Compress: Applying a cold compress to the affected area can help reduce redness and soothe any itching or burning sensations. This can provide immediate relief.

3. Over-the-Counter Treatments: Consider using over-the-counter antihistamines if you suspect an allergic reaction. Topical hydrocortisone cream may also help reduce inflammation and itching, but it should be used sparingly and not for extended periods.

4. Monitor Your Diet: Since you mentioned drinking rose tea and other beverages, keep a food diary to track any potential triggers. If you suspect a particular food or drink is causing your symptoms, try eliminating it for a period to see if your condition improves.

5. Consult a Dermatologist: Since your symptoms have persisted and are causing you concern, it’s advisable to consult a dermatologist. They can provide a thorough examination and may recommend specific treatments tailored to your condition, such as prescription medications or topical treatments.

6. Follow Up on Medications: If you are taking acne medication, discuss your symptoms with your healthcare provider. They may need to adjust your treatment plan or consider alternative therapies.

Conclusion
Facial redness and the emergence of bumps can stem from various causes, including allergic reactions, acne, rosacea, or other dermatological conditions. It’s essential to approach the situation with caution, avoiding potential irritants and seeking professional advice when necessary. Keeping a close eye on your symptoms and any changes in your skincare or dietary habits will help you and your healthcare provider determine the best course of action. Remember, your skin is a reflection of your overall health, so addressing any underlying issues is crucial for long-term well-being.
