Irregular menstruation

My menstrual cycle used to be quite regular, but since the beginning of this year, it has only come every two months, and each time lasts only 3-4 days.
The flow is heavier on the second and third days, but by the fourth day, it stops almost completely.
However, there is a little bit of bleeding again on the fifth and sixth days, and then it stops on the seventh day.
The color is bright red only during the heavier flow days (i.e., the second and third days), while the rest of the time it is either dark red or brown.
I consulted a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner who advised that I need to regulate my body, or it could lead to infertility.
I am quite worried about this since I am unmarried.
I also saw a Western doctor, but they couldn't determine the cause.
I have taken medication to induce menstruation earlier this year.
The TCM practitioner mentioned that my condition might be due to eating too much fruit, which they said makes my body too "cold," resulting in the darker color.
Is this true? Aren't fruits considered healthy foods? I have stopped eating cold foods and have avoided fruits for over four months now.
It's hard for me to cope with not being able to enjoy these two delicious types of food.

The menstrual cycle is not regular or normal for all women.
As long as ovulation occurs, there is a chance of conception, even if the cycles are not very regular.
There is no need to adjust irregular menstruation to make it "normal." Regarding dietary recommendations from Traditional Chinese Medicine, if they are not too strict or difficult to follow, it may be beneficial to incorporate them.
This could help alleviate concerns about future pregnancy.

Irregular menstrual cycles can be a source of concern for many women, and understanding the underlying causes is crucial for addressing any potential health issues. Based on your description, it seems that your menstrual cycle has changed significantly, with periods occurring every two months and lasting only a few days. Additionally, the color and flow of your menstrual blood have varied, which can also indicate underlying issues.

Several factors can contribute to irregular menstrual cycles, including hormonal imbalances, stress, changes in weight, diet, and underlying medical conditions. Hormonal fluctuations are often the primary culprit, as they can affect the regularity of ovulation and the menstrual cycle. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, and other endocrine issues can lead to irregular periods. Stress, both physical and emotional, can also disrupt the hypothalamus, which plays a key role in regulating the menstrual cycle.

Regarding your concern about the color of your menstrual blood, it is not uncommon for menstrual blood to vary in color. Bright red blood typically indicates fresh blood, while darker shades, such as dark red or brown, can indicate older blood that has taken longer to exit the uterus. This is generally not a cause for concern unless accompanied by other symptoms, such as severe pain or unusual discharge.

You mentioned that a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner suggested that your diet, particularly the consumption of cold foods like fruits, might be affecting your menstrual health. While TCM offers valuable insights into health and wellness, it is essential to approach dietary recommendations with a balanced perspective. Fruits are generally considered healthy due to their vitamins, minerals, and fiber content. However, if you have specific dietary sensitivities or if certain foods seem to exacerbate your symptoms, it may be worth exploring those further.

It’s also important to consider that lifestyle factors, such as exercise, sleep, and stress management, play a significant role in menstrual health. Regular physical activity can help regulate hormones and improve overall well-being. Additionally, ensuring adequate sleep and finding effective stress management techniques can positively impact your menstrual cycle.

If you have already consulted with both TCM and Western medicine practitioners without a clear diagnosis, it may be beneficial to seek a comprehensive evaluation from a gynecologist or an endocrinologist. They can perform tests to assess hormone levels, check for any underlying conditions, and provide tailored recommendations based on your specific situation.

In summary, irregular menstrual cycles can arise from various factors, including hormonal imbalances, stress, and lifestyle choices. While dietary changes may help, it is essential to maintain a balanced approach to nutrition. If your concerns persist, seeking further medical evaluation is advisable to ensure that any underlying issues are addressed. Remember, your health is paramount, and finding the right support and treatment can help you regain regularity in your menstrual cycle and overall well-being.
