Is it poor digestion?

Hello, I have noticed that whenever I eat grapefruit or dragon fruit, I experience diarrhea and it seems like I can't digest them.
Each time I eat them, I also have stomach pain.
Three years ago, I was in a car accident and took antibiotics for about a year.
After that, I rapidly gained weight, about 10 kilograms over the course of a year.
Additionally, I easily experience stomach pain when under stress.
What should I do?

If you experience diarrhea and abdominal pain after eating grapefruit and dragon fruit, it may be due to your sensitivity to these fruits.
Your stomach may have gastritis or ulcers, so it is advisable to consult a gastroenterologist.

Digestive troubles can be quite distressing, and it sounds like you are experiencing a combination of symptoms that may be linked to your diet, past medical history, and stress levels. Let's break down your situation and explore potential solutions.

Firstly, it’s important to recognize that certain foods can trigger digestive issues in some individuals. In your case, you mentioned experiencing diarrhea and abdominal pain after consuming grapefruit and dragon fruit. Both of these fruits are high in fiber and can be difficult for some people to digest, especially if they have underlying gastrointestinal sensitivities. It might be beneficial to keep a food diary to track what you eat and how it affects your digestive health. This can help you identify specific triggers and avoid them in the future.

Your history of taking antibiotics for an extended period following a car accident is also significant. Antibiotics can disrupt the natural balance of gut bacteria, leading to conditions such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea or even long-term changes in gut flora. This imbalance can contribute to digestive discomfort and may explain why you are experiencing symptoms like bloating and pain. Probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria, can help restore this balance. You might consider incorporating probiotic-rich foods into your diet, such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or taking a probiotic supplement after consulting with a healthcare professional.

Additionally, you mentioned that you have gained weight and experience stomach pain when under stress. Stress can have a profound impact on digestive health. The gut-brain connection means that emotional stress can lead to physical symptoms, including stomach pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits. It’s crucial to find effective stress management techniques that work for you. Practices such as mindfulness, yoga, regular physical activity, and deep breathing exercises can help alleviate stress and improve your overall well-being.

Given your symptoms, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider, preferably a gastroenterologist, who can conduct a thorough evaluation. They may recommend tests such as blood work, stool tests, or imaging studies to rule out any underlying conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food intolerances, or other gastrointestinal disorders.
In the meantime, consider making dietary adjustments. You might want to reduce your intake of high-fiber foods temporarily to see if your symptoms improve. Gradually reintroducing these foods can help you determine which ones you can tolerate. Staying hydrated is also essential, especially if you are experiencing diarrhea.
Lastly, if you find that your symptoms persist or worsen, or if you experience additional symptoms such as significant weight loss, fever, or blood in your stool, seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of a more serious condition that requires immediate intervention.

In summary, addressing your digestive troubles involves a combination of dietary management, stress reduction, and professional medical evaluation. By taking these steps, you can work towards understanding your symptoms better and finding effective solutions to improve your digestive health.
