Could you please clarify if you are referring to a growth or lesion near the anus?
Hello, doctor: I recently saw a similar question online, but it seems a bit different from mine.
I would like to ask about a small growth near the anus that I discovered when I was in the first year of junior high school.
I am now 25 years old.
There is a soft, small bump (about one centimeter) at the anal opening that has never been painful, itchy, or bled.
It's just a small, soft bump, and I've completely forgotten about it until I accidentally touched it a few days ago.
Is this hemorrhoids, or could it be some other condition? The more I think about it, the more anxious I become.

Hello, does it not expand, shrink, or retract into the anus? If it does (more like hemorrhoids) and remains the same size, it could possibly be a skin tag or even a tumor (benign?).
I recommend that you visit a colorectal surgery clinic for an examination, and if necessary, have it surgically removed for further testing.
Sincerely, Dr.
Chen Zhiping.

More Info
Hello! Thank you for reaching out with your question regarding the soft growth near your anus. Based on your description, it sounds like you have a small, soft, non-painful growth that has been present for many years without any associated symptoms such as pain, itching, or bleeding. This is certainly a common concern, and it’s understandable to feel anxious about it.
From a medical perspective, there are several possibilities for what this growth could be. One common condition that could match your description is a skin tag (also known as an acrochordon). Skin tags are benign growths that often appear in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the anal region. They are typically soft, painless, and can vary in size. They are not harmful and do not require treatment unless they become bothersome or irritated.
Another possibility is a hemorrhoid, which can be external or internal. External hemorrhoids can sometimes present as soft lumps around the anal area, but they are usually associated with symptoms like pain, itching, or bleeding, especially during bowel movements. Since you mentioned that your growth has been asymptomatic for many years, it is less likely to be a hemorrhoid.
Less commonly, the growth could be a polyp or a fibroma, both of which are benign tumors. Polyps can occur in various parts of the body, including the anal area, and are usually asymptomatic unless they become large or problematic. Fibromas are also benign tumors that can develop in various tissues.
Given that you have had this growth for a long time without any issues, it is likely benign. However, it is always wise to have any new or changing growth evaluated by a healthcare professional, especially if you notice any changes in size, color, or if it starts to cause discomfort.
In your case, since the growth has been stable and asymptomatic for a decade, it may not require immediate attention. However, if you are feeling anxious about it, consider scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider for a thorough examination. They can provide a definitive diagnosis and discuss whether any treatment is necessary.
In terms of treatment options, if the growth is determined to be a skin tag or another benign condition, it can often be removed for cosmetic reasons or if it becomes bothersome. This is typically a simple outpatient procedure.
Lastly, while it is understandable to feel worried about any growth, try to remember that many such conditions are benign and manageable. Regular check-ups and being proactive about your health can help alleviate concerns and ensure that any potential issues are addressed promptly.
I hope this information helps clarify your concerns! If you have any further questions or need more guidance, feel free to ask.
