Can I get pregnant?
Hello doctor, my boyfriend and I had intercourse four days after my period ended in September.
He fully penetrated, but we stopped after 4.5 minutes without ejaculation, and he had already ejaculated once before we began.
We did not use any contraception, and my menstrual cycle is usually 30 days and quite regular.
I had my period last month, but this month it is already three days late, so I am worried about the possibility of pregnancy.
Even though I had my period last month, I am concerned because it is late this month.
Also, on the day my period was supposed to arrive or the day before, I ate ice (two sticks).
Could this affect my menstrual cycle?

Hello: Your description does not allow us to determine if it is a risky period, as you have not mentioned how many days your menstrual cycle lasts.
It is better to take a pregnancy test first! Dr.

When considering the possibility of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse, it's essential to understand the various factors that can influence this situation. Based on your description, you had sexual intercourse shortly after your menstrual period ended, and while your boyfriend did not ejaculate during intercourse, he had ejaculated prior to that. You also mentioned that your menstrual cycle is typically around 30 days and that your period is now three days late.
Firstly, let's address the timing of your sexual activity. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, and if you had intercourse just after your period, it is possible that sperm could still be present when you ovulate, especially if you have a shorter cycle. Ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before your next period is due, but this can vary from person to person. If your cycle is usually 30 days, ovulation might occur around day 16. If you had intercourse on day 4, there is a possibility, albeit low, that sperm could still be viable by the time you ovulate.
Regarding your concern about the late period, it is important to note that many factors can influence menstrual cycles, including stress, changes in routine, diet, and even environmental factors. Eating ice or consuming cold foods is unlikely to have a significant impact on your menstrual cycle. Stress and anxiety about the possibility of pregnancy can also delay your period, as they can affect hormonal balance.
Given that your period is three days late, it is advisable to take a home pregnancy test for a more definitive answer. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG, which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. If the test is positive, it would indicate pregnancy, and if it is negative, you may want to wait a few more days and test again, as hormone levels may not be high enough to detect early on.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy due to the timing of your sexual activity and the presence of sperm, the likelihood is relatively low, especially since there was no ejaculation during intercourse. However, the best course of action is to take a pregnancy test to confirm your status. If you find yourself frequently anxious about pregnancy or your menstrual cycle, consider discussing these concerns with a healthcare provider who can provide guidance tailored to your situation.
