Penis and foreskin issues?
Hello Doctor: Recently, I noticed that there are many small bumps on my foreskin, which upon closer inspection appear to have something like blackheads or fine hairs.
Could this be folliculitis? How can I address this myself? Additionally, there are numerous small, round spots on the coronal sulcus of my glans, some white and some pink.
They are quite small and flat (this condition has been present for a while).
Could this be pearly penile papules? If it is not serious, will it eventually disappear over time? I have read some articles about this but I am not certain.

More Info
When it comes to penile and foreskin issues, it's important to approach the symptoms you described with a clear understanding of what they might indicate and how to address them effectively. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing two separate concerns: potential folliculitis (or hair follicle inflammation) and pearly penile papules.
Folliculitis
The small bumps you see on your foreskin that resemble pimples could indeed be a form of folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. This condition can occur due to various reasons, including:
1. Irritation or Friction: This can happen from tight clothing or vigorous activities that cause friction against the skin.
2. Bacterial Infection: Sometimes, bacteria can infect the hair follicles, leading to inflammation and the formation of small, pus-filled bumps.
3. Poor Hygiene: Accumulation of sweat, oils, and dead skin can lead to clogged follicles.
#
Self-Care Solutions:
- Maintain Hygiene: Regularly wash the area with mild soap and water to keep it clean.
- Avoid Irritation: Wear loose-fitting underwear and avoid activities that may cause friction.
- Topical Treatments: Over-the-counter antibacterial creams may help if the bumps are due to a bacterial infection. However, if they persist or worsen, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
Pearly Penile Papules
The small, dome-shaped bumps you mentioned on the coronal sulcus (the groove between the glans and the shaft of the penis) are likely pearly penile papules. These are common and benign anatomical variations that typically appear as small, white or pinkish bumps.
#
Characteristics:
- Non-Harmful: Pearly penile papules are not a sign of any disease and do not require treatment. They are a normal variant of penile anatomy.
- Persistence: They usually do not disappear on their own, but they are harmless and do not cause any health issues.
When to Seek Medical Advice
While both conditions described are generally benign, you should consult a healthcare provider if:
- The bumps become painful, red, or swollen.
- You notice any changes in the appearance of the bumps, such as bleeding or discharge.
- You experience other symptoms, such as itching, burning, or discomfort during urination.
Conclusion
In summary, the bumps on your foreskin may be indicative of folliculitis, while the small bumps on the coronal sulcus are likely pearly penile papules. Both conditions are generally harmless, but maintaining good hygiene and avoiding irritation can help manage symptoms. If you have any concerns or if the symptoms change, it is always best to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation and personalized advice. Remember, taking care of your sexual health is just as important as any other aspect of your well-being.
