How to solve this?
In recent months, after having sex with my girlfriend, I've often experienced difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection during subsequent encounters.
While I can feel aroused when watching adult films, I struggle to get an erection without significant stimulation, and even then, it tends to go soft shortly after.
However, I do notice that I can achieve an erection in the morning.
This issue seems to resolve itself after a week or two but keeps recurring.
During the last sexual encounter, I experienced another episode of losing my erection, so I decided to remove the condom.
At that point, my girlfriend noticed a dark bruise-like discoloration at the base of my penis, where the condom had been.
The next day, when I masturbated, I didn't notice any similar symptoms.
I'm wondering if I was using the condom incorrectly and what solutions might be available for this issue.

More Info
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common issue that many men face at some point in their lives. Understanding the causes and potential solutions is crucial for managing this condition effectively. Based on the information provided, it seems that your experiences with erectile dysfunction may be influenced by several factors, including psychological, physiological, and possibly even situational elements.
Causes of Erectile Dysfunction
1. Psychological Factors: Anxiety, stress, and relationship issues can significantly impact sexual performance. The pressure to perform can lead to a cycle of anxiety that exacerbates the problem. If you find that your erectile dysfunction occurs primarily in sexual situations but not during spontaneous erections (like morning wood), this may suggest a psychological component.
2. Physical Factors: Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and hormonal imbalances can affect blood flow and nerve function, leading to erectile dysfunction. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity can contribute to ED.
3. Medication Side Effects: Certain medications can interfere with erectile function. If you are taking medications for other health conditions, it’s worth discussing with your doctor whether they could be contributing to your erectile dysfunction.
4. Injury or Trauma: Physical trauma to the pelvic area, including the penis and testicles, can lead to erectile dysfunction. The bruising you mentioned at the base of your penis could indicate some form of trauma or pressure that may have affected your erectile function temporarily.
5. Hormonal Issues: Low testosterone levels can also lead to erectile dysfunction. If you suspect hormonal imbalances, it may be beneficial to have your hormone levels checked.
Solutions and Management Strategies
1. Consult a Healthcare Provider: It’s essential to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare provider who can conduct a thorough evaluation. They may recommend tests to rule out underlying medical conditions.
2. Psychological Counseling: If anxiety or stress is a contributing factor, speaking with a therapist or counselor can help. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to be effective for many men experiencing ED.
3. Lifestyle Modifications: Improving your overall health can have a positive impact on erectile function. This includes:
- Regular physical activity
- A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins
- Limiting alcohol intake and quitting smoking
- Managing stress through relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation
4. Medication: If lifestyle changes and counseling do not resolve the issue, medications such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (e.g., Viagra, Cialis) may be prescribed. These medications help increase blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection.
5. Proper Use of Condoms: If you suspect that the way you are using condoms may be contributing to your erectile dysfunction, consider reviewing the proper technique. Ensure that the condom is not too tight, as this can restrict blood flow. Additionally, using a lubricant can help reduce friction and discomfort.
6. Regular Check-ups: Regular visits to your healthcare provider can help monitor your overall health and catch any potential issues early.
Conclusion
Erectile dysfunction can be a complex issue with multiple contributing factors. It’s essential to approach this problem holistically, considering both physical and psychological aspects. By consulting with a healthcare provider, making lifestyle changes, and addressing any underlying issues, you can improve your erectile function and overall sexual health. Remember, you are not alone in this, and many men experience similar challenges. Seeking help is the first step towards regaining confidence and improving your sexual health.
