Red spots..?
Recently, I noticed red spots on the glans during masturbation, but there are no red spots when not erect.
Could this be a sexually transmitted infection? (I have only noticed this in the past two months.) Sometimes, I also feel a sharp pain in my testicles, and the urethra in the penile area feels painful.
Additionally, there are many red spots in the area where the glans connects to the shaft of the penis.

When it comes to red spots on the glans (the head of the penis), there are several potential causes that could be related to urological issues, and it's important to approach this matter with care and consideration. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing red spots that appear primarily when the penis is not erect, along with some discomfort in the urethra and occasional pain in the testicles. Here are some possible explanations for your symptoms:
1. Irritation or Allergic Reaction: One common cause of red spots on the glans can be irritation or an allergic reaction to products such as soaps, lotions, or even latex from condoms. If you have recently changed any personal care products or sexual practices, this could be a contributing factor.
2. Infection: Various infections can lead to symptoms like yours. For example, fungal infections (such as candidiasis) or bacterial infections can cause redness and irritation. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes or gonorrhea can also present with similar symptoms, including pain during urination and discomfort in the genital area.
3. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear on the glans and are often mistaken for something more serious. They are a normal anatomical variation and do not require treatment.
4. Lichen Sclerosus: This is a chronic skin condition that can affect the genital area, leading to white patches, redness, and sometimes pain. It is more common in men and can cause discomfort during erections.
5. Phimosis or Balanitis: If the foreskin is too tight (phimosis) or if there is inflammation of the glans (balanitis), this can lead to redness and irritation. Balanitis can be caused by infections, poor hygiene, or skin conditions.
6. Testicular Pain: The pain you are experiencing in the testicles could be due to a variety of reasons, including epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis), testicular torsion, or even referred pain from issues in the pelvic region.
Given the complexity of your symptoms, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination. A urologist can perform necessary tests, including a physical examination, urine tests, and possibly swabs to check for infections. They can also provide a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment options based on the findings.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations:
- Avoid Irritants: Steer clear of any potential irritants, such as scented soaps or lotions, and consider using mild, unscented products for personal hygiene.
- Practice Good Hygiene: Ensure that you maintain good genital hygiene, which can help prevent infections.
- Avoid Sexual Activity: Until you have a clear diagnosis, it may be wise to refrain from sexual activity to prevent potential transmission of infections and to avoid further irritation.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in your symptoms, including the appearance of the red spots, any discharge, or changes in pain levels.
In conclusion, while red spots on the glans can be concerning, they are not always indicative of a serious condition. However, due to the potential for infections and other urological issues, it is essential to seek medical advice promptly to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
