Post-coital syndrome
A few days ago, while having intercourse with my girlfriend in the missionary position, I experienced sudden pain around the glans, which was quite severe during ejaculation.
Afterward, urination was also painful, and I noticed some blood near the glans.
The next day, I felt a sharp pain in the glans while urinating, which would sometimes occur and sometimes not, but it would go away after urination.
Should I seek medical attention for this condition, or would it be sufficient to rest and avoid strenuous activities for recovery? I would appreciate your guidance on this matter.
Thank you!

Hello, typically, this position does make it easier to experience a penile fracture, which is a rupture of the penile corpora cavernosa.
However, it rarely occurs solely at the glans; it mostly happens in the shaft of the penis.
Based on your description, it should not be a penile fracture.
As for the reason for the pain, I believe there are a few possibilities: 1.
Injury due to friction at the glans.
2.
Prolonged erection causing damage to the microvasculature of the glans.
3.
Infection.
My recommendations are as follows: 1.
Rest and stay hydrated; it usually improves gradually within 3-5 days.
2.
Test your urine to confirm if there is an infection.
3.
Avoid applying irritating substances locally, such as soap.
Sincerely, Dr.

Post-sexual pain, especially when accompanied by symptoms such as bleeding, persistent pain during urination, and discomfort in the genital area, should not be taken lightly. Based on your description, it sounds like you may have experienced some form of trauma or irritation to the genital region during intercourse, particularly if you are noticing pain localized around the glans (the head of the penis) and the presence of blood.
In general, the following points should be considered when evaluating whether to seek medical attention for urological issues after sexual activity:
1. Severity of Symptoms: If you are experiencing severe pain, especially during urination or ejaculation, this is a significant symptom that warrants medical evaluation. Pain that is intense enough to affect your ability to urinate comfortably or that is associated with bleeding is concerning.
2. Presence of Blood: The presence of blood in your urine or around the glans is a red flag. This could indicate a variety of issues, including trauma, infection, or even more serious conditions. Blood should always be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
3. Duration of Symptoms: If the pain persists beyond a few days or worsens, it is advisable to seek medical attention. While some minor injuries may heal on their own with rest and avoidance of further irritation, ongoing symptoms can indicate a need for intervention.
4. Associated Symptoms: If you experience additional symptoms such as fever, chills, or any signs of infection (such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge), you should seek medical care promptly.
5. History of Similar Issues: If you have a history of urological issues or sexually transmitted infections (STIs), this context can influence the need for medical evaluation.
6. Self-Care Measures: While resting and avoiding further irritation is a good initial approach, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you notice no improvement or if symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
In terms of potential conditions, you could be experiencing a mild case of penile trauma, which may resolve with conservative measures. However, there is also the possibility of a urinary tract infection (UTI), urethritis, or even a sexually transmitted infection, all of which would require appropriate treatment.
In conclusion, while minor discomfort may resolve with rest, the combination of pain, bleeding, and urinary symptoms suggests that you should consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough examination, possibly including a urinalysis and other diagnostic tests, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help prevent complications and ensure a quicker recovery.
