Can I get pregnant?
Hello, I had surgery to remove an endometrioma in July, and the doctor mentioned that there was significant adhesions.
After treatment, I was informed that I could have a 70% chance of conceiving.
However, it has been four months since the treatment, and I haven't had any news.
My period was due on the 4th of March, but it didn't come.
I bought a pregnancy test on the 6th and it showed negative.
My period came on the 7th of February, with a cycle of 26 days, and I had intercourse on the 19th and 20th of February.
Is there a chance I could be pregnant? If not, what could be the issue? Also, my breasts feel swollen; could that be related to my period approaching?
Meimei, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2005/03/07

Hello: 1.
It is indeed the best time to conceive after surgery to remove endometriosis.
If you have not become pregnant within a year post-surgery, please consult a gynecologist for further evaluation.
2.
If your period is due and has not arrived, please visit a gynecology clinic to take a pregnancy test.

After undergoing surgery for chocolate cysts (endometriomas), many women wonder about their fertility and the possibility of becoming pregnant. Chocolate cysts are a type of ovarian cyst associated with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus grows outside it. Surgery can help remove these cysts and potentially improve fertility, especially if the cysts were causing significant adhesions or damage to the reproductive organs.
In your case, you mentioned that your doctor indicated a 70% chance of regaining fertility after treatment. This is a positive sign, as many women do experience improved fertility following surgery for chocolate cysts. However, it is essential to understand that individual outcomes can vary based on several factors, including the severity of endometriosis, the presence of other fertility issues, and overall reproductive health.
Regarding your menstrual cycle and the possibility of pregnancy, it is important to note that a missed period can be caused by various factors, including stress, hormonal imbalances, or changes in your body after surgery. Since you have a regular cycle of approximately 26 days, a delay in your period could be concerning, but it does not necessarily indicate pregnancy. The fact that you tested negative for pregnancy on the 6th day after your expected period suggests that you are not pregnant at this time. However, it is still possible to experience a late period due to other reasons.
The symptoms you described, such as breast tenderness, could be related to hormonal fluctuations that often occur in the menstrual cycle. Many women experience breast tenderness before their period due to increased estrogen levels. If your period does not arrive soon, it may be worthwhile to consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any underlying issues or to discuss further testing.
If you do not conceive in the coming months, it may be beneficial to explore additional fertility evaluations. Factors such as ovulation disorders, tubal patency, and the overall health of your partner can all play a role in your ability to conceive. Your healthcare provider may recommend tests such as blood work to check hormone levels, an ultrasound to assess ovarian function, or even a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to evaluate the patency of your fallopian tubes.
In terms of nutrition and lifestyle, maintaining a balanced diet and a healthy weight can also support your fertility. Some studies suggest that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats may improve reproductive health. Additionally, managing stress through relaxation techniques or moderate exercise can be beneficial.
In summary, while surgery for chocolate cysts can improve your chances of pregnancy, it is essential to monitor your menstrual cycle and consult with your healthcare provider if you have concerns about fertility or if your period continues to be irregular. They can provide personalized advice and potential next steps based on your specific situation. Remember, fertility can be a complex issue, and seeking guidance from a fertility specialist may also be a valuable option if you continue to have difficulty conceiving.
