Trigger finger issues?
Could you please let me know if your hospital performs percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy? If so, could you recommend a physician in Yunlin County? My family is afraid of traditional open surgery, so I am inquiring about this.
Thank you!

Dr. Lin Gengxiao reply Orthopedics
Hello, this is actually a wound of about 0.2 cm.
The difference compared to a wound of 1.0-1.5 cm may seem significant in the short term, but after two to three months, there is no significant difference.
Additionally, percutaneous incision and drainage may occasionally be incomplete.
Theoretically, both procedures are very minor surgeries, and the level of anesthesia pain is the same; patients will not feel anything during the procedure.
Therefore, the pain experienced by patients will not differ significantly, with only slight variations in the first two to three days postoperatively.
Thank you! This question was answered by Dr.
Lin Jin-Qing from the Orthopedic Department at National Taiwan University Hospital Yunlin Branch.

Minimally invasive percutaneous surgery (MIPS) has gained popularity in recent years due to its potential benefits, including reduced recovery time, less postoperative pain, and smaller scars compared to traditional open surgery. In Yunlin County, several medical facilities may offer such procedures, but it is essential to consult with specific hospitals or clinics to confirm their capabilities and the availability of qualified surgeons.
In general, minimally invasive techniques can be applied in various surgical fields, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and general surgery. For spinal conditions, procedures such as percutaneous discectomy, vertebroplasty, and kyphoplasty are common. These techniques involve using small incisions and specialized instruments to treat conditions like herniated discs or vertebral compression fractures.
If you are looking for a specific recommendation for a surgeon in Yunlin County who performs minimally invasive percutaneous surgery, it is advisable to reach out to local hospitals or specialized clinics directly. You can inquire about their experience with MIPS and request to see a surgeon who has a good track record in performing these procedures. Additionally, you may want to consider seeking referrals from your primary care physician or other healthcare providers who are familiar with the specialists in your area.
When discussing your concerns about traditional open surgery, it is important to communicate these with the surgeon. They can provide detailed information about the benefits and risks of both minimally invasive and traditional approaches, helping you make an informed decision. Surgeons often take patient preferences into account when recommending treatment options, so expressing your family's fears and preferences can lead to a more tailored approach to care.
Regarding the specific types of minimally invasive procedures available, here are a few examples:
1. Percutaneous Discectomy: This procedure is often used to treat herniated discs. It involves removing the portion of the disc that is pressing on a nerve root through a small incision, using imaging guidance to ensure precision.
2. Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty: These procedures are used to treat vertebral compression fractures. In vertebroplasty, a special cement is injected into the fractured vertebra to stabilize it. Kyphoplasty involves inflating a balloon to create space before injecting the cement, which can help restore some height to the vertebra.
3. Endoscopic Surgery: This technique uses an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera) to visualize and treat conditions within the body through small incisions. It can be used in various surgical fields, including gastrointestinal and orthopedic surgeries.
4. Laparoscopic Surgery: While primarily used in abdominal surgeries, laparoscopic techniques can also be adapted for certain spinal procedures, allowing for less invasive access to the spine.
In conclusion, if you are considering minimally invasive percutaneous surgery in Yunlin County, it is crucial to conduct thorough research and consult with healthcare professionals to find a qualified surgeon. Discuss your concerns about traditional surgery openly, and explore the available options to ensure the best possible outcome for your family's health needs.
