Is this result accurate?
Hello Doctor: My last menstrual period started around March 24th.
However, it lasted almost two weeks, and my cycle is not very regular.
Around April 20th, I had some intimate touching with my boyfriend, but there was only brief contact and no penetration.
My period came on May 2nd, but the flow was not as heavy as usual, lasting about four to five days, and I noticed blood clots similar to what I usually experience.
On May 12th, I took a pregnancy test in the evening, and it showed negative.
After a while, I checked again, and the result was still the same.
I would like to know if these results are accurate because I am very worried about the possibility of an unexpected pregnancy.
Additionally, I have been experiencing frequent stomach discomfort, and I am unsure if it is due to anxiety or something else.
I hope you can help me with my concerns.
Thank you!

Hello: Only the correct and consistent use of condoms can prevent sexually transmitted infections and provide effective contraception; the rhythm method and withdrawal are unreliable.
If your period is late, please visit a gynecology clinic for a pregnancy test.

When it comes to pregnancy testing and understanding irregular menstrual cycles, there are several factors to consider. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced some irregularities in your menstrual cycle, which can complicate the interpretation of pregnancy tests.
First, let’s address the accuracy of your pregnancy test. Home pregnancy tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your urine, which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. Most tests are quite sensitive and can detect pregnancy as early as a few days after a missed period. However, if your menstrual cycle is irregular, determining the right time to take a test can be tricky.
In your case, you mentioned that your last period started around March 24 and that you had sexual contact around April 20, followed by a period starting on May 2. If your period arrived on time, it is a strong indicator that you are not pregnant. The fact that you took a pregnancy test on May 12 and received a negative result further supports this. However, if your cycles are irregular, it may be beneficial to wait a week or two after a missed period before testing again to ensure that hCG levels are high enough to be detected.
Regarding your concerns about the volume of your menstrual flow and the presence of blood clots, these can vary from month to month and can be influenced by several factors, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, diet, and overall health. A lighter period with clots can sometimes occur without it indicating pregnancy, especially if you have a history of irregular cycles.
You also mentioned experiencing stomach discomfort. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including stress, dietary changes, or even premenstrual syndrome (PMS). It’s important to note that anxiety about potential pregnancy can also manifest as physical symptoms, including gastrointestinal discomfort.
If you continue to feel unwell or if your menstrual cycle remains irregular, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a more thorough evaluation, including blood tests, which can provide more definitive results regarding pregnancy and assess any underlying issues that may be affecting your menstrual cycle.
In summary, based on the information provided, your pregnancy test appears to be accurate, especially considering the timing of your menstrual cycle. However, if you have ongoing concerns about your health or menstrual irregularities, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Regular check-ups can help monitor your reproductive health and provide peace of mind.
