Stretch marks
Hello! I am currently a student, and I developed stretch marks on the back of my calves and thighs because I loved to eat when I was younger.
How can I get rid of them? What is the approximate cost? Also, I was wondering if orthopedic surgeons perform ear piercings, and what the cost would be for that as well.
Thank you!

Stretch marks after weight loss are known as striae.
The dermal tissue is typically torn and may not be completely removed.
Some nourishing creams, such as Terproline, may help to some extent.
Additionally, some plastic surgeons are willing to perform ear piercings, and the costs can vary, so it's best to inquire on-site.

More Info
When it comes to addressing stretch marks, also known as striae, there are several treatment options available, though it's important to note that complete removal may not be possible. Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched rapidly, often due to weight gain, pregnancy, or puberty, leading to the tearing of the dermis. While they may fade over time, they often do not disappear completely.
1. Topical Treatments: There are various creams and lotions that claim to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, tretinoin, and centella asiatica have been studied for their effectiveness. However, results can vary, and these treatments are generally more effective on newer stretch marks than older ones.
2. Laser Therapy: This is one of the more effective treatments for reducing the appearance of stretch marks. Laser therapy works by stimulating collagen production in the skin, which can help improve the texture and color of the stretch marks. Multiple sessions may be required, and costs can vary widely depending on the provider and location.
3. Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels: These procedures involve exfoliating the skin to promote new skin growth. They can help improve the appearance of stretch marks, but like other treatments, they may not completely eliminate them.
4. Microneedling: This technique involves using fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which can stimulate collagen production. It has shown promise in improving the appearance of stretch marks.
5. Surgical Options: In more severe cases, surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) may be considered, especially if the stretch marks are located on the abdomen. However, this is a more invasive option and typically reserved for individuals who have significant skin laxity.
As for the costs associated with these treatments, they can vary significantly based on the type of treatment, the provider's expertise, and geographic location. For instance, laser therapy sessions can range from $200 to $500 each, while topical treatments may cost anywhere from $20 to $100. It's advisable to consult with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss the best options for your specific situation and to get a more accurate estimate of costs.
Regarding ear piercing, many plastic surgeons and dermatologists offer ear piercing services. The costs can vary based on the facility and the method used (e.g., traditional needle piercing vs. a piercing gun). Generally, you can expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $100 for a professional ear piercing, which often includes the cost of the earrings and aftercare instructions.
In summary, while there are several options for treating stretch marks, complete removal is unlikely. The effectiveness of treatments varies, and costs can range widely. For ear piercing, many plastic surgery offices do provide this service, and the costs are relatively modest. Always consult with a qualified professional to determine the best course of action for your needs.
