Soaking in hot water?
Hello, Director...
It's very hot in Taitung lately...
I have learned to coexist with prostatitis.
1.
Regarding soaking in hot water for prostatitis, will sperm be affected? I soak for half an hour daily in high temperatures.
2.
If I must drink alcohol due to work obligations, is it better to drink hard liquor, beer, or wine? I know it's best not to drink at all...
3.
If I have what is known as bladder neck congestion, should I change the way I exert myself while urinating? Thank you.

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Health is the most important: Soaking in warm water for half an hour is generally acceptable, but personally, I believe that as long as symptoms improve to a manageable level, it's best to stop there.
Nothing is perfect, right? I'm not sure about your concerns regarding alcohol; are you worried about its impact on sperm quality or inflammation? Currently, there is no significant interference from alcohol on either aspect, but being intoxicated can certainly have effects.
By the way, according to the latest research, the recommended daily alcohol intake should not exceed 40cc; exceeding this amount can affect liver function, and going over 80cc will clearly show changes in liver function tests.
Additionally, while many people think that lighter alcohols lead to less severe hangovers, studies indicate that distilled spirits may actually result in milder hangovers.
As for bladder neck congestion, I'm not sure how to improve it, but avoiding holding in urine should help prevent and alleviate the issue.
Urology Department Director Xu Wei-Kai responds on behalf of the Taitung Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, expressing concern for you.

Hot baths and their impact on prostate health and sperm quality have been topics of interest and concern among men, especially those who are trying to conceive or are experiencing prostate issues. Let's break down the questions and provide a comprehensive understanding based on current medical knowledge.
1. Impact of Hot Baths on Sperm Quality: The concern regarding hot baths, particularly in relation to sperm quality, is well-founded. Sperm production occurs optimally at temperatures slightly lower than the body's core temperature, which is around 37°C (98.6°F). The testicles are located outside the body in the scrotum for this very reason; they require a cooler environment to produce healthy sperm. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures, such as those experienced in hot baths or saunas, can lead to a decrease in sperm count and motility. Studies have shown that elevated temperatures can impair spermatogenesis (the process of sperm production), potentially leading to fertility issues. Therefore, if you are soaking in hot water for extended periods, it could negatively impact your sperm quality.
2. Alcohol Consumption and Its Effects: Regarding alcohol consumption, moderation is key. While occasional drinking may not have a significant impact on prostate health or sperm quality, excessive alcohol intake can lead to hormonal imbalances, liver damage, and other health issues that may indirectly affect fertility. Different types of alcohol, such as beer, wine, or spirits, have varying effects, but the primary concern is the amount consumed rather than the type. It is advisable to limit alcohol intake and prioritize hydration with water, especially in hot weather, to maintain overall health and well-being.
3. Bladder Neck Congestion and Urination Techniques: Bladder neck congestion can occur due to various factors, including prostate enlargement or inflammation. If you are experiencing difficulty urinating or a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying, it may be beneficial to adjust your urination technique. Instead of straining, which can exacerbate symptoms, try to relax your pelvic floor muscles. This can help facilitate a smoother flow of urine. Additionally, ensuring that you are fully emptying your bladder each time you urinate can help alleviate some of the discomfort associated with bladder neck congestion.
In summary, while enjoying hot baths can be relaxing, it is essential to be mindful of the potential impacts on sperm quality and overall reproductive health. Limiting exposure to high temperatures, moderating alcohol consumption, and adopting proper urination techniques can contribute positively to prostate health. If you have ongoing concerns about your prostate health or fertility, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice and potential treatment options. Regular check-ups and open discussions about any symptoms you experience can help in managing your health effectively.
