Testicular pain
Hello doctor, my right testicle has been feeling sore since the day before yesterday when I wore jeans.
It still feels sore today; it doesn't hurt, just feels achy.
I'm not sure what this condition might be.
Thank you.

More Info
Testicular discomfort, such as the sensation of soreness or aching in the testicles, can arise from a variety of causes. In your case, since you mentioned that the discomfort began after wearing jeans, it could potentially be related to a few factors, including physical irritation, tight clothing, or even minor trauma. However, it is essential to consider other possible causes as well.
1. Physical Irritation or Trauma: Tight clothing, like jeans, can sometimes cause discomfort due to friction or pressure on the testicles. If the jeans were particularly snug or if you engaged in activities that might have caused minor trauma to the area, this could lead to a feeling of soreness.
2. Epididymitis: This is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that stores and carries sperm. It can cause pain and discomfort in the testicles and may be accompanied by swelling or redness. Epididymitis can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or non-infectious factors.
3. Testicular Torsion: Although this is less likely given that you describe the discomfort as "soreness" rather than severe pain, testicular torsion is a medical emergency that occurs when the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. This condition typically presents with sudden, severe pain and requires immediate medical attention.
4. Hernia: An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. This can cause discomfort in the groin or testicular area, especially when standing or lifting heavy objects.
5. Varicocele: This is a condition characterized by enlarged veins within the scrotum, similar to varicose veins in the legs. It can lead to a dull ache or discomfort in the testicles, particularly after prolonged standing or physical activity.
6. Testicular Cancer: While less common, it is essential to be aware of the possibility of testicular cancer, especially if there are any lumps or changes in the testicle's size or shape. Early detection is crucial for effective treatment.
When to Seek Help
It is advisable to seek medical attention if:
- The discomfort persists for more than a few days without improvement.
- You experience additional symptoms such as swelling, redness, or warmth in the scrotal area.
- There is a sudden onset of severe pain, which could indicate a more serious condition like testicular torsion.
- You notice any lumps, changes in size, or other unusual symptoms in the testicles.
Conclusion
While the discomfort you are experiencing may be due to something as simple as irritation from tight clothing, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the soreness continues or worsens, or if you develop any additional symptoms, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. They can perform a physical examination, possibly order imaging tests, and provide a diagnosis and appropriate treatment options based on your specific situation. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, especially in cases of more serious conditions.
