After taking emergency contraception, my period is still delayed?

I have a question.
On August 3rd, I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend just a couple of days after my period ended.
Since there was no ejaculation and it was right after my period, I didn't take emergency contraception.
I took a pregnancy test yesterday, and the result was negative.
Does that mean I am not pregnant from the encounter on August 3rd? The pregnancy test box says that you can test for results 7 days after intercourse.
From August 11th to yesterday is exactly 7 days, and the result was negative, so does that mean I am really not pregnant? However, why hasn't my period come yet? Should I expect it to arrive when it is due this month? Is it true that taking emergency contraception will cause my period to come within 2 to 3 days? I have a lot of questions, and I apologize for bothering you.
It has been 4 days since I took the emergency contraception, and my period still hasn't arrived.

Hello: 1.
Only the correct and consistent use of condoms can prevent sexually transmitted infections and provide effective contraception; the rhythm method is unreliable.
2.
If your period is overdue, please take a pregnancy test weekly.
If all tests are negative and you are more than one month late, please visit the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hsinchu Hospital.

It's understandable to feel anxious when your period is late, especially after taking emergency contraception (EC) and engaging in sexual activity. Let’s break down your concerns regarding your late period, the effectiveness of the pregnancy test, and the impact of emergency contraception on your menstrual cycle.

Firstly, emergency contraception is designed to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. It works primarily by delaying ovulation, which means that if you take it shortly after having unprotected sex, it can prevent the egg from being fertilized. However, EC can also cause temporary hormonal changes that may affect your menstrual cycle. It's not uncommon for women to experience a delay in their period after taking EC, sometimes by a few days or even longer. This is due to the high dose of hormones in the medication, which can disrupt your normal cycle.

Regarding your sexual encounter on August 3rd, since you mentioned that there was no ejaculation and it occurred shortly after your period, the likelihood of pregnancy is low. The fact that you took a pregnancy test seven days after that encounter and received a negative result is a good indicator that you are not pregnant from that specific incident. Pregnancy tests are generally accurate when taken at least a week after potential conception, as they detect the hormone hCG, which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus.

Now, concerning your late period, it’s important to note that while the pregnancy test indicates you are not pregnant, the hormonal changes from taking emergency contraception can lead to a delay in your menstrual cycle. It’s not unusual for your period to be late by a few days to a week after taking EC. If your period does not arrive by the time you expect your next cycle, it may be worth taking another pregnancy test to confirm that you are not pregnant.

You asked if your period would come after the expected date of your cycle. While many women find that their period arrives within a few days of taking EC, some may experience a delay. If you do not get your period within a week of when you expect it, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation.

In summary, here are some key points to consider:
1. Negative Pregnancy Test: A negative result after seven days is a strong indication that you are not pregnant from the encounter on August 3rd.

2. Impact of Emergency Contraception: EC can cause delays in your menstrual cycle due to hormonal changes.

3. Monitoring Your Cycle: If your period does not arrive within a week of when you expect it, consider taking another pregnancy test or consulting a healthcare provider.

It’s always a good idea to keep track of your menstrual cycle and any changes you experience, as this information can be helpful for your healthcare provider if you have further concerns. If you have any additional questions or if your period remains absent for an extended period, please reach out to a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
