Concern
I would like to ask about my situation.
My menstrual period started on August 28 and ended around September 2.
However, I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend from September 5 to 7.
Then, around September 12, I experienced abnormal bleeding, which was a deep brown color, lasting for about a week.
On September 19, I visited a doctor, and an ultrasound showed normal results with a healthy uterus.
The doctor mentioned that I had poor ovulation and prescribed a week of progesterone for me, but I often forget to take it.
Now, on September 28, I am bleeding again, and I'm unsure if this is my period because the blood is also brown and the amount is very small.
I would like to know if there is any issue and whether I could be pregnant.
Thank you, doctor.
I appreciate your help!

Hello: 1.
The likelihood of pregnancy is low, but please visit a gynecologist to take a pregnancy test to confirm whether you are pregnant.
2.
Your abnormal bleeding is related to the irregular use of progesterone.
It is recommended that you consult a gynecologist to have your situation reassessed and obtain a new prescription, and ensure proper medication adherence.
Wishing you health and happiness.

More Info
Abnormal bleeding in women can be a source of concern and confusion, especially when it occurs outside of the regular menstrual cycle. Your situation, where you experienced abnormal bleeding after a recent sexual encounter, raises several important considerations.
First, it's essential to understand that abnormal bleeding can have various causes, including hormonal imbalances, stress, and even physical factors such as infections or structural abnormalities in the reproductive system. Given that you have already undergone an ultrasound and your doctor has indicated that your uterus appears normal, this rules out some of the more serious concerns, such as fibroids or polyps.
The timing of your bleeding is also significant. You mentioned that you had your period from August 28 to September 2, and then experienced abnormal bleeding starting around September 12. This could potentially be indicative of ovulation bleeding, which is a common phenomenon. Ovulation bleeding occurs when the ovary releases an egg, and it can cause a small amount of bleeding due to the hormonal changes that accompany this process. This type of bleeding is usually light and may be brown or dark red in color, which aligns with your description of the bleeding being deep coffee-colored.
Another factor to consider is the possibility of hormonal fluctuations. You mentioned that your doctor prescribed progesterone (often referred to as "黄体素" in Chinese) to help regulate your cycle. If you have been inconsistent with taking this medication, it may not be effectively stabilizing your hormone levels, which could lead to irregular bleeding. Hormonal imbalances are a common cause of abnormal bleeding, and they can be influenced by various factors, including stress, lifestyle changes, and even diet.
Regarding your concern about pregnancy, it is important to note that the type of bleeding you described (light and brown) is not typically associated with a normal menstrual period. However, it can occur in early pregnancy, especially if it is implantation bleeding, which can happen when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. If there is any possibility of pregnancy, it would be prudent to take a home pregnancy test or consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In summary, while your symptoms may be concerning, they can often be attributed to hormonal fluctuations or ovulation bleeding, especially given the normal ultrasound results. However, if the abnormal bleeding persists or worsens, or if you experience any additional symptoms such as severe pain or significant changes in your cycle, it is crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further tests or adjustments to your treatment plan to help manage your symptoms effectively.
Lastly, maintaining a consistent medication schedule, managing stress, and adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly impact your menstrual health. If you find it challenging to remember to take your medication, consider setting reminders or discussing alternative treatment options with your doctor. Your health is important, and addressing these concerns proactively can lead to better outcomes.
