Post-Ejaculation Discomfort: Is It a Sign of Kidney Issues? - Urology

Strange?

Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask why I always feel a bit sore in my lower back after ejaculation during masturbation.
I’m not sure if this is just my imagination or if there are actual cases like this.
Could this be related to kidney deficiency? Can you tell me what possible conditions this could be? However, I don’t feel sore when I lie down.
Does this mean I should avoid masturbation and ejaculation? Does masturbation really lead to kidney deficiency?

Xiao Guai, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2005/10/16

Hello, let me clarify one point: the kidneys in Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) may not refer to the same organ.
From a Western medical perspective, sexual dysfunction typically only occurs when kidney function has severely declined, such as in cases requiring dialysis.
Additionally, Western medicine posits that even if one masturbates 10 times a day, it will not affect kidney function, as the two are largely unrelated.
As for lower back pain, it can sometimes result from using certain muscles during masturbation, leading to muscle soreness, which usually resolves with a few days of rest.

P.S.: 1.
"Kidney deficiency" in TCM does not refer to poor kidney function; I personally believe that the TCM concept of the kidney is more akin to the endocrine function in Western medicine.
2.
If you are interested in TCM, you may consult a TCM practitioner.

Post-ejaculation discomfort, particularly in the lower back area, can be concerning and may lead one to question whether it is indicative of underlying kidney issues. However, it is essential to understand that discomfort in the lower back after ejaculation is not a direct sign of kidney problems. Instead, it may be related to several other factors, including muscular strain, nerve irritation, or even psychological aspects.

Firstly, the sensation of discomfort or soreness in the lower back after ejaculation can often be attributed to muscle tension or strain. During sexual arousal and orgasm, various muscles in the pelvic region and lower back contract. If these muscles are already tense or if there is an underlying issue such as poor posture or lack of physical activity, this contraction can lead to soreness afterward. This is particularly true if you notice that lying down alleviates the discomfort, suggesting that the position you are in during or after ejaculation may be contributing to the issue.

Secondly, nerve irritation or compression could also be a factor. The pelvic region is densely packed with nerves, and any irritation or compression of these nerves can lead to discomfort. Activities that involve prolonged sitting or certain positions during masturbation may exacerbate this irritation, leading to the sensation of soreness in the lower back.

It is also worth considering psychological factors. Anxiety or stress related to sexual performance or guilt associated with masturbation can manifest physically. This can lead to muscle tension and discomfort, which may be perceived as pain in the lower back.

Regarding the concern about "losing kidney function" or "damaging the kidneys" through masturbation, this is a common myth. There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that masturbation has any detrimental effects on kidney health. In fact, masturbation is a normal sexual activity and is considered a healthy part of human sexuality. It does not lead to kidney damage or failure. The kidneys are resilient organs, and unless there is a pre-existing condition affecting them, normal sexual activity, including masturbation, should not pose any risk.

If the discomfort persists or worsens, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can perform a thorough evaluation to rule out any potential underlying conditions, such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, or other musculoskeletal issues. A healthcare provider may also recommend lifestyle changes, such as improving posture, engaging in regular physical activity, or practicing relaxation techniques to alleviate muscle tension.

In summary, while post-ejaculation discomfort in the lower back can be concerning, it is unlikely to be a sign of kidney issues. Instead, it may be related to muscular strain, nerve irritation, or psychological factors. Masturbation is not harmful to kidney health, and if discomfort continues, seeking medical advice is the best course of action.
