Menstruation has not occurred, but there is some light bleeding?
I apologize for the inconvenience, but I have irregular menstrual cycles, sometimes taking over 40 days for my period to arrive.
After my period started on October 19, I discovered I was pregnant on November 22, but the next day I experienced bleeding and had a miscarriage.
I went to the hospital for an examination, and they confirmed that everything was cleared out.
My period returned on December 28, 36 days later, but I haven't had a period since then, which is concerning.
Starting Friday, I noticed some light bleeding, with a bit of brownish discharge, followed by some light red blood that resembled blood mixed with water (with an unusual odor).
I have never experienced this type of bleeding before.
Is this normal? During my last pregnancy, I had breast swelling, but I don't have that symptom now.
Is there a possibility that I could be pregnant?

Hello: The first menstrual period after a miscarriage may not necessarily occur exactly one month later, but it is advisable to undergo a pregnancy test and an ultrasound to rule out the possibility of incomplete miscarriage or a new pregnancy.

Irregular menstrual cycles and unusual bleeding can be concerning and may indicate underlying health issues. Based on your description, it appears that you have experienced significant changes in your menstrual cycle, including prolonged cycles, a recent miscarriage, and unusual bleeding patterns. Let's break down the potential causes and considerations regarding your situation.
Firstly, irregular menstrual cycles can be influenced by various factors, including hormonal imbalances, stress, significant weight changes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, and other medical conditions. After a miscarriage, it is common for menstrual cycles to take some time to regulate. The body needs time to recover from the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy and miscarriage, which can lead to irregular cycles for a few months.
You mentioned that your last menstrual period was on December 28, and you have not had a period since then. The occurrence of spotting or light bleeding, especially if it is brown or coffee-colored, can sometimes be a sign of hormonal fluctuations or the beginning of a new menstrual cycle. However, if this bleeding is accompanied by an unusual odor, it may warrant further investigation, as it could indicate an infection or other complications.
Regarding the possibility of pregnancy, it is essential to consider that after a miscarriage, your body may still be adjusting. The absence of breast tenderness, which you experienced during your previous pregnancy, does not definitively rule out the possibility of being pregnant again. Some women may not experience the same symptoms in subsequent pregnancies, and others may have varying symptoms based on hormonal levels.
Given your concerns about the irregular bleeding and the potential for pregnancy, it is advisable to take a home pregnancy test if you suspect you might be pregnant. If the test is positive or if you continue to experience unusual bleeding, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider. They may recommend a pelvic examination, ultrasound, or blood tests to assess your hormone levels and determine the cause of your symptoms.
In summary, while irregular menstrual cycles and unusual bleeding can be common after a miscarriage, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you experience persistent irregularities, significant changes in bleeding patterns, or any concerning symptoms, seeking medical advice is vital. Your healthcare provider can help identify any underlying issues and guide you on the appropriate next steps for your reproductive health. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these concerns with a professional can provide you with peace of mind and the necessary care.
