There is a bump on the penis that looks like a pimple?
Hello doctor, around mid-February, I developed a bump on my penis that looks similar to an acne lesion.
It is located near the base, slightly to the right, on the upper surface of the penis.
At that time, I squeezed it and was able to extract a significant amount of material that resembled a comedo.
After that, I didn't pay much attention to it, but it has remained somewhat swollen and hasn't gone away until now.
During this period, I have squeezed it a few more times, but nothing comes out anymore, and it still hurts when I squeeze it.
Could you please tell me what this bump might be? Thank you for your response.

It’s folliculitis! Don’t be tempted to squeeze it, as it can lead to infection.
If you’re concerned, please visit a hospital and consult a urologist.

When it comes to a pimple-like bump on the penis, particularly one that has persisted for several weeks and has been manipulated multiple times, there are several potential causes and concerns to consider.
Firstly, it’s important to recognize that the genital area is sensitive and can be prone to various skin conditions. The bump you described could be a sebaceous cyst, which is a common and usually harmless condition. Sebaceous cysts occur when the sebaceous glands become blocked, leading to the accumulation of sebum (the oily substance produced by these glands). They can appear as small, raised bumps on the skin and may sometimes become inflamed or infected, resulting in pain and swelling.
Another possibility is folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. This can occur due to bacterial infection, irritation, or even ingrown hairs. Folliculitis can present as red, swollen bumps that may resemble pimples and can be painful, especially if they are manipulated or squeezed.
Additionally, it’s crucial to consider sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as a potential cause of any unusual bumps in the genital area. Conditions such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) can cause painful blisters or sores, while human papillomavirus (HPV) can lead to genital warts. If the bump is accompanied by other symptoms, such as itching, burning, or discharge, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
Given that you have attempted to squeeze the bump multiple times, it’s possible that you may have introduced bacteria into the area, leading to an infection. This could explain the persistent swelling and pain. It’s important to avoid further manipulation of the bump, as this can exacerbate inflammation and lead to complications.
In terms of treatment, if the bump is indeed a sebaceous cyst or folliculitis, warm compresses may help reduce inflammation and promote drainage if there is any pus. However, if the bump remains painful, swollen, or does not resolve on its own, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination and may recommend treatments such as antibiotics if an infection is suspected, or they may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the cyst if necessary.
In conclusion, while the bump you are experiencing may be benign, it is essential to monitor it closely. If there are any changes in size, color, or associated symptoms, or if you have concerns about STIs, please consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation and appropriate management. It’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to changes in your genital health.
