Could I be pregnant?
I had my menstrual period on July 10, and I would like to ask about the likelihood of pregnancy in the following three scenarios (which occurred on July 17):
1.
After giving my boyfriend a handjob, I used a tissue to clean his penis, and then he rubbed my vulva, but he did not ejaculate.
2.
If there was a small amount of semen on my fingers while cleaning his penis, and I accidentally inserted my fingers about an inch into my vagina.
3.
After cleaning his penis, he briefly pressed against my vaginal opening, but there was no ejaculation or penetration.
Additionally, I would like to know when I can take a pregnancy test to determine if I am pregnant.
Would testing on July 30 be too early, and would it be accurate? I am very concerned and hope to resolve my doubts as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Danielle, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2006/07/21
Dr. Zhong Wenzhen reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Hello Ms.
Danielle: 1.
The likelihood of conception in these circumstances is low, but not impossible.
Therefore, please take a pregnancy test between July 27 and August 10, and visit the hospital for examination.
Wishing you well.

When it comes to understanding the risks of pregnancy, especially in the context of the scenarios you've described, it's important to consider several factors, including the timing of your menstrual cycle, the nature of the sexual activity, and the methods of pregnancy testing.
Firstly, let's address the timing of your menstrual cycle. If your last menstrual period (LMP) started on July 10, and you had sexual activity on July 17, this timing falls within your fertile window. The fertile window typically spans from about five days before ovulation to one day after ovulation. Ovulation usually occurs around 14 days before your next expected period, which means if you have a regular cycle, you could be ovulating around July 24. Therefore, having sexual activity on July 17 could potentially lead to pregnancy, especially if sperm were present.
Now, let's analyze the three scenarios you presented:
1. Manual stimulation followed by external rubbing: If your boyfriend did not ejaculate and there was no direct penetration, the risk of pregnancy is relatively low. However, pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, so if there was any sperm on his penis that transferred to your vulva, there is a slight risk of pregnancy.
2. Accidental transfer of semen into the vagina: If you accidentally inserted a finger that had a small amount of semen into your vagina, there is a potential risk of pregnancy. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for several days, so if viable sperm were present, this could lead to pregnancy.
3. External contact without penetration: Similar to the first scenario, if there was no ejaculation and no penetration, the risk of pregnancy is low. However, as mentioned, pre-ejaculate can contain sperm, which adds a small risk.
Regarding testing for pregnancy, it is generally recommended to wait until at least one week after your missed period for the most accurate results. If your cycle is regular and you expect your next period around July 24, testing on July 30 would be appropriate. Home pregnancy tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Testing too early, before implantation occurs, can lead to a false negative result.
If you are feeling anxious about the possibility of pregnancy, it might be helpful to take a test on July 30, and if the result is negative but you still suspect you might be pregnant (especially if your period does not arrive), consider retesting a few days later or consulting with a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In summary, while there are scenarios where pregnancy could occur, the risk varies based on the specifics of the activity. The best approach is to monitor your menstrual cycle and use a reliable pregnancy test at the appropriate time. If you have further concerns or experience any unusual symptoms, seeking advice from a healthcare professional is always a good idea.
