excuse me?

Hello Doctor,
I am Jian X.
Jun, born on May 5, 2006.
I visited an ENT hospital where I told the doctor that I had some hearing loss in my left ear and itching in my right ear.
The doctor examined me and mentioned that there was an issue with earwax in my left ear and an infection in my right ear.
He prescribed Parafine Liquid for my left ear and scheduled a cleaning appointment.
For my right ear, he prescribed Kenacomb Cream.
However, the doctor did not schedule an appointment for the cleaning; he just said to wait for his outpatient clinic, and I ended up forgetting to go.
On July 26 and 31, 2006, I had hearing tests done at your clinic.
On August 2, 2006, you scheduled an electromyography (EMG) test for me.
On August 10, 2006, you scheduled an appointment to review the results, and you prescribed Euclidan lozenges.
I am a bit confused about the diagnosis of sensory hearing loss; is it in my right ear or both ears? I think it might be both because I feel a ringing sound, although it is very faint, usually heard during sleep or when it is quiet.
The issue with earwax in my left ear has not yet been resolved.

Understanding ear issues, particularly hearing loss and earwax problems, can be quite complex, as they often involve multiple factors and can lead to various symptoms. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced a range of ear-related issues, including hearing difficulties, itching, and the presence of earwax, as well as a potential infection in your right ear.

Firstly, let's address the issue of earwax (cerumen) buildup. Earwax is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal, and it serves several purposes, including protecting the ear from dust, debris, and microorganisms. However, excessive earwax can lead to blockage, which may cause symptoms such as hearing loss, discomfort, and even tinnitus (the perception of ringing or buzzing in the ears). In your case, the left ear was identified as having an earwax problem, which could explain the hearing difficulties you experienced. It is essential to have this earwax properly removed by a healthcare professional to restore normal hearing and alleviate any discomfort.

Regarding the right ear, you mentioned an infection, which could be due to various pathogens, including bacteria or fungi. The use of Kenacomb cream suggests that your doctor suspected a fungal or bacterial infection, as this cream contains a combination of antibiotics and antifungal agents. Infections in the ear can lead to symptoms such as itching, pain, and hearing loss. If the infection is not adequately treated, it can lead to more severe complications, including chronic ear problems or even hearing loss.

You also mentioned experiencing a sensation of "tinnitus," which is often described as a ringing or buzzing sound in the ears. Tinnitus can be associated with various conditions, including hearing loss, ear infections, exposure to loud noises, and even stress. It is important to note that tinnitus can be subjective and may vary in intensity and perception from person to person. In your case, since you mentioned that the tinnitus is more noticeable during quiet times, it may be related to the underlying ear issues you are experiencing.

The term "感覺性耳聾" (sensorineural hearing loss) refers to a type of hearing loss that occurs due to damage to the inner ear or the auditory nerve pathways. This type of hearing loss can be caused by various factors, including aging, exposure to loud noises, infections, and certain medical conditions. If your doctor has indicated that you may have sensorineural hearing loss, it is crucial to follow up with further evaluations, such as audiometric testing, to determine the extent of the hearing loss and to explore potential treatment options.

In summary, your ear issues seem to involve a combination of earwax buildup, potential infection, and possibly sensorineural hearing loss. It is essential to address the earwax problem promptly, as this can significantly impact your hearing and overall ear health. Additionally, if you continue to experience symptoms such as tinnitus or hearing loss, further evaluation by an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist is recommended. They can provide a comprehensive assessment and develop a tailored treatment plan to address your specific needs. Remember, early intervention is key to preventing further complications and improving your quality of life.
