Will the penis appear larger after circumcision?
I was told that after circumcision, the penis may feel thicker and longer.
I really want to know if that's true.
If my penis is currently 11 cm, will it become longer or thicker after the procedure? Also, when I wear a condom, the area around my glans feels loose while the base fits snugly.
Is this normal? Does it mean my glans is smaller? Is there any way to make it larger?
Victor, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2006/11/19
Dr. Chen Zhirong reply Urology
Victor: The foreskin in phimosis, due to the glans not being exposed frequently, is overly protected and lacks stimulation.
Therefore, after circumcision, as the restriction is lifted and the glans continuously experiences friction from clothing, the penis naturally becomes thicker and longer even when not erect.
This is based on my years of accumulated experience, which I can attest to.
However, after adulthood, the corpora cavernosa of the penis have fully developed, and theoretically, the length of an erection is less likely to increase after circumcision.

Circumcision, the surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis, is a topic that often generates a variety of opinions and myths, particularly regarding its impact on the appearance and size of the penis. To address your question, it is important to clarify some common misconceptions and provide a factual understanding of what circumcision entails and its potential effects.
Firstly, circumcision does not actually increase the size of the penis. The perception that a circumcised penis looks larger may stem from the fact that the glans (the head of the penis) is more exposed after the foreskin is removed. This exposure can create an optical illusion, making the penis appear longer or thicker than it actually is. However, the actual length and girth of the penis remain unchanged post-surgery.
In your case, if your penis measures 11 cm currently, circumcision will not make it longer or thicker. The dimensions of the penis are primarily determined by genetics and hormonal factors, and surgical procedures like circumcision do not alter these fundamental characteristics.
Regarding the fit of condoms, it is not uncommon for individuals to experience a difference in how condoms fit, particularly if there is a significant difference in girth between the shaft and the glans. If you find that the condom fits snugly at the base but feels loose around the glans, this could be due to the natural shape of your penis rather than an indication of size. It is essential to choose the right size of condom for comfort and effectiveness. There are various sizes and styles available, and experimenting with different brands may help you find a better fit.
As for concerns about the size of the glans or the penis overall, it is important to remember that penis size varies widely among individuals, and there is no "normal" size. If you are feeling self-conscious about your size, it may be beneficial to speak with a healthcare professional who can provide reassurance and guidance.
In terms of increasing size, there are many products and procedures marketed for penis enlargement, but most lack scientific support and can even be harmful. It is crucial to approach such options with caution and skepticism.
In conclusion, circumcision does not make the penis look bigger in terms of actual size; any perceived increase is likely due to the exposure of the glans. If you have concerns about the fit of condoms or the size of your penis, consulting with a healthcare provider can offer personalized advice and support. Remember, penis size does not determine sexual satisfaction or self-worth, and focusing on overall health and well-being is far more important.
