Achieving Smooth Skin: Solutions for Acne and Skin Care Concerns - Dermatology

I want to see myself with smooth skin?

Hello Doctor: My skin was originally good, but since moving to Hsinchu, it has not been well.
I easily develop comedones on my cheeks and forehead, which are open comedones.
After extracting them with a comedone extractor, they do not fade easily.
I have fair skin, so any acne scars are very noticeable, and my uneven skin affects my mood.
I have tried chemical peels, but I found them too uncomfortable and irritating for my skin, so I have not continued with them.
Previously, I visited a dermatologist who prescribed me a product called "Acne Control Lotion," but I did not see much improvement.
Later, I consulted another dermatologist who prescribed a cream called Airol, and I noticed a more significant improvement with it.
What are the differences between these two medications? Will using these medications on my face affect my pregnancy? Most acne medications seem to involve tetracycline or antibiotics, but I am currently planning to conceive and am hesitant to take any medication.
Do you have any recommendations for doctors in Hsinchu? Is it suitable for my skin to get facials now? What should I pay attention to regarding the skincare products I use? I really dislike the uneven texture of my face.
I appreciate your time in addressing my concerns.
Thank you very much.

You can try using salicylic acid for chemical peeling, which is relatively less irritating.
As for Differin and Airol, both are forms of vitamin A acid; however, Differin is a second-generation retinoid while Airol is a first-generation retinoid.
The main difference lies in their irritancy, with Differin being milder.
Neither of them will affect the fetus.
For topical skincare products, just avoid overly oily formulations and choose non-comedogenic products.
In Hsinchu, you can visit Dr.

Wishing you peace, and Jesus loves you.

Achieving smooth skin, especially when dealing with acne and other skin care concerns, can be a challenging journey. It sounds like you've been experiencing a range of issues since moving to Hsinchu, including the development of open comedones (blackheads) and persistent redness after extraction. Let's break down your concerns and explore potential solutions.

Firstly, it's important to understand that environmental factors, such as humidity and temperature changes, can significantly impact your skin's condition. Moving to a new area may have introduced your skin to different allergens, pollutants, or even changes in water quality, all of which can contribute to breakouts and irritation.

You mentioned trying glycolic acid peels but found them uncomfortable and irritating. This is a common reaction, especially for those with sensitive skin or those who are new to chemical exfoliants. While these treatments can be effective for some, they are not suitable for everyone. If you find them too harsh, it might be worth exploring gentler alternatives, such as salicylic acid, which is often better tolerated and can help unclog pores without causing excessive irritation.

Regarding the medications you’ve used, it seems you have been prescribed "Acne Control" (痘膚潤) and "Airol" (艾洛), which are both topical treatments for acne. The primary difference between these two products typically lies in their active ingredients. Acne Control often contains ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which target acne-causing bacteria and help exfoliate the skin. On the other hand, Airol usually contains tretinoin (a form of retinoid), which promotes cell turnover and helps prevent clogged pores. Both can be effective, but they work in different ways, and your response to them can vary based on your skin type and the severity of your acne.

When it comes to pregnancy, it's crucial to be cautious with topical medications. Tretinoin, for instance, is generally not recommended during pregnancy due to potential risks to the fetus. If you are planning to conceive, it would be wise to consult with a dermatologist who can provide alternatives that are safe for use during this time. Additionally, antibiotics like tetracycline are contraindicated during pregnancy, so it's good that you are being mindful of what you are taking.

As for your skincare routine, consider the following tips:
1. Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild, non-comedogenic cleanser to avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils, which can lead to increased oil production and more breakouts.

2. Moisturizing: Even oily skin needs hydration. Look for lightweight, oil-free moisturizers that won't clog your pores.

3. Sunscreen: Protecting your skin from UV damage is essential, especially if you're using products that increase sensitivity, like retinoids or acids.

4. Avoid Over-Exfoliation: While exfoliation is important, overdoing it can lead to irritation and worsen your skin condition. Stick to a routine that works for you without causing discomfort.

5. Spot Treatments: For active breakouts, consider using targeted treatments with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, but use them sparingly to avoid irritation.

6. Consultation: Since you are experiencing persistent issues, it may be beneficial to seek a dermatologist's advice. They can provide tailored recommendations based on your specific skin type and concerns.

Lastly, regarding facials, it's essential to choose treatments that are suitable for acne-prone skin. Avoid aggressive treatments that could irritate your skin further. Instead, opt for calming facials that focus on hydration and gentle exfoliation.

In conclusion, achieving smooth skin requires a balanced approach that considers your skin's unique needs and sensitivities. By being mindful of the products you use, consulting with professionals, and adjusting your routine as needed, you can work towards clearer, healthier skin.

Many acne lesions indicate poor facial metabolism. Using a gentle cleanser to wash your face, avoiding squeezing pimples, and applying glycolic acid gel before bed are more conservative approaches. Glycolic acid peels and blue light therapy are also effective treatments.
