Growths on the glans and foreskin?
Hello, I recently took a bath at home.
I went to the supermarket and bought some bath powder, which I added to the tub.
While soaking, I touched my penis and became erect.
When I was erect, I pulled back my foreskin, which my doctor had previously mentioned was too long, and held it back with my hand.
After bathing, I also washed all areas, including the glans, with clean water and body wash.
About one or two days later, I noticed some red spots on my foreskin and glans.
They are very itchy and have persisted for about five days now.
I'm unsure of the cause.
Previously, when I visited the hospital, I mentioned to the doctor that I had something on my glans, but it felt like very small red blisters that were neither painful nor itchy.
He told me it was a skin condition.
However, the current red spots are very itchy.
I am still using the ointment he prescribed.
Therefore, I would like to know if you have any recommendations, doctor?

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
JOHN: Hello, it seems that you may have washed too thoroughly, removing the natural oils from the skin, which can lead to dryness and create an opportunity for fungal invasion.
Additionally, it is possible that chemical substances during bathing have caused localized chemical damage.
I recommend applying baby oil or a similar product to the glans.
Furthermore, in the future, avoid soaking the glans in water that is too hot.
If it is not very dirty, refrain from using soap or other cleaning products on the glans.
I believe this should lead to improvement.
Note: If there is no improvement after 7 days, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly for the application of topical ointments, which will be more effective.
Sincerely, Dr.

More Info
Understanding red spots and itching on the penis can be concerning, and it’s important to approach this issue with care and knowledge. Based on the symptoms you've described, there are several potential causes for the red spots and itching you are experiencing after bathing and handling your genital area.
1. Irritation or Allergic Reaction: The use of bath powders and soaps can sometimes lead to skin irritation or an allergic reaction. Ingredients in these products may cause contact dermatitis, which can manifest as red, itchy spots. If you have sensitive skin, it’s advisable to use hypoallergenic products specifically designed for sensitive areas.
2. Fungal Infection: The moist environment created by soaking in a hot tub can promote fungal growth, particularly if the area is not dried properly afterward. Conditions like candidiasis (a yeast infection) can cause red spots and itching. This is more common in warm, damp areas of the body.
3. Balanitis: This is an inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) and can be caused by poor hygiene, irritants, or infections. Symptoms include redness, swelling, and itching. If you have a history of phimosis (tight foreskin), this condition can be more prevalent.
4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): While you mentioned that the previous doctor indicated a skin condition, it’s important to consider that some STIs can present with similar symptoms. If you have had unprotected sexual contact, it would be wise to get tested for STIs.
5. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can occur due to irritation, infection, or blockage. If you have been touching or rubbing the area frequently, this could lead to folliculitis, which can appear as red, itchy bumps.
Recommendations:
- Avoid Irritants: Stop using any new products that you suspect may have caused the reaction. Stick to mild, unscented soaps and avoid bubble baths or bath powders until the irritation subsides.
- Keep the Area Clean and Dry: After bathing, ensure that the area is thoroughly dried. Moisture can exacerbate fungal infections and irritation.
- Topical Treatments: Continue using the medicated cream prescribed by your doctor. If it does not improve within a few days, or if the symptoms worsen, you should return to your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
- Consult a Specialist: If the red spots and itching persist, it’s advisable to see a dermatologist or a urologist. They can provide a more accurate diagnosis and may perform tests to rule out infections or other skin conditions.
- Avoid Self-Diagnosis: While it’s tempting to look up symptoms online, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your specific situation.
In summary, while there are several potential causes for the red spots and itching on your penis, it’s essential to monitor your symptoms and seek medical advice if they persist or worsen. Proper hygiene, avoiding irritants, and consulting a healthcare professional are key steps in addressing your concerns effectively.
