The breast fibroma has been surgically removed?

Hello, I discovered breast tenderness and a movable lump in July of last year.
After visiting a gynecologist, I was diagnosed with a fibroma.
The doctor recommended surgery for removal and a biopsy to check for benign or malignant cells.
It turned out to be benign, and I continued follow-up visits at the hospital for recovery.
The doctor has been prescribing ointment for scar treatment and vitamins B and C.
However, I still have small lumps in the surgical area that sometimes feel uncomfortable or painful.
I would like to know if this type of postoperative recovery is normal.

Post-surgery recovery from a fibroadenoma excision can vary significantly from person to person, and it is not uncommon to experience some discomfort or unusual sensations during the healing process. Fibroadenomas are benign tumors of the breast that are typically composed of both glandular and stromal (connective) tissue. They are most common in young women and can sometimes cause symptoms such as breast pain or the sensation of a lump.

After surgery, it is normal to have some residual swelling, tenderness, or even small hard lumps at the surgical site. These can be due to several factors, including scar tissue formation, which is a natural part of the healing process. Scar tissue can sometimes feel firmer than the surrounding tissue and may take time to soften. The presence of small hard lumps can also be related to the healing of the tissue and the body’s inflammatory response to the surgery.

The use of topical treatments, such as ointments or creams, as well as vitamins B and C, is often recommended to help with skin healing and to minimize the appearance of scars. However, it is essential to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the application of these treatments and to attend follow-up appointments for monitoring your recovery.

In terms of pain, it is not unusual to experience intermittent discomfort or a sensation of tightness in the area where the fibroadenoma was removed. This discomfort can be exacerbated by physical activity or changes in hormonal levels, particularly around your menstrual cycle. If you notice that the pain is persistent, worsening, or accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, warmth, or discharge from the incision site, it is crucial to contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Regarding the timeline for recovery, most patients can expect to see significant improvement within a few weeks to a few months post-surgery. However, complete healing, including the resolution of any lumps or discomfort, may take longer, sometimes up to six months or more. It is essential to be patient and allow your body the time it needs to heal properly.

If you are concerned about the small hard lumps or any persistent pain, it is advisable to discuss these symptoms with your healthcare provider. They may recommend imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, to assess the area and ensure that there are no complications or new developments.

In summary, while some discomfort and the presence of hard lumps can be normal after fibroadenoma surgery, it is essential to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider. Regular follow-ups and monitoring are crucial to ensure that your recovery progresses smoothly and to address any concerns you may have. Remember, every individual's recovery journey is unique, and your healthcare team is there to support you through the process.
