Here it comes again?
Hello Doctor, thank you very much for answering my question.
This is the question I asked last time: https://adoctor.tw/article/45846.
I appreciate your thorough response, but it seems I still haven't received an answer that addresses my concerns.
I have taken a picture of the shape of my penis during an erection, which can be found at the following link: http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/jw!1Xg3nneBEwUorSyrGDU3KgkMDwo-/gallery?fid=2.
I understand that a curved penis is common among individuals, but I would like to ask about a specific area in the photo.
If you could please look at the second image, you will see a spot that I have marked with a red pen.
My concern is that the penis does not appear to be a uniform cylindrical shape; instead, there is a noticeable indentation in the middle.
I am worried about this.
I have researched and found that the area connected to the base of the penis is called the corpus spongiosum.
Why does it appear to have a concave shape on the top of the penis? Shouldn't it present a cylindrical shape during an erection? Is this a congenital condition, normal, or could it be due to pressure or injury? Thank you, Doctor, for your patience in reading this.
Jie, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2007/03/20
Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Hello, I see the photograph and there is indeed a depression.
It appears that this may be due to a previous injury causing a localized indentation, or it could be a congenital structural issue.
However, regardless of the cause, as long as erectile function is normal, it should not affect normal sexual activity.
Additionally, regarding the urethra, during an erection, the corpora cavernosa may be smaller, which can sometimes prevent a completely smooth appearance.
If you press on it, you may notice a slight indentation and a lack of elasticity.
These are all normal findings.
Sincerely,
Dr.

Understanding penile curvature and its implications can be a source of concern for many individuals. It is important to recognize that some degree of curvature in the penis is quite common and can be considered normal. However, when there are noticeable deformities, such as a significant indentation or a pronounced curve, it may warrant further investigation.
From your description, it seems you are observing a specific indentation along the shaft of your penis, particularly at the area where the urethra runs. This could potentially be related to a condition known as Peyronie's disease, which is characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, leading to curved, painful erections. However, it is essential to note that not all curvatures are indicative of Peyronie's disease, especially if there is no associated pain or difficulty during erections or sexual intercourse.
The indentation you are noticing could also be a normal anatomical variation. The penis is made up of three main erectile bodies: two corpora cavernosa on the top and one corpus spongiosum on the bottom, which surrounds the urethra. Variations in the shape and size of these structures can lead to differences in the appearance of the penis when erect. If the indentation is not causing you pain or discomfort, it may simply be a benign anatomical feature.
However, if you experience any of the following symptoms, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional:
1. Pain during erections: If the curvature or indentation is associated with pain, it could indicate an underlying condition that needs to be addressed.
2. Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection: This could suggest a more serious issue that may require medical intervention.
3. Changes in curvature: If you notice that the curvature is worsening over time, it is essential to seek medical advice.
4. Psychological distress: If the appearance of your penis is causing you significant anxiety or affecting your sexual relationships, discussing these feelings with a healthcare provider can be beneficial.
In terms of treatment, if Peyronie's disease is diagnosed, options may include medications, injections, or even surgical procedures in more severe cases. However, many men with mild curvature do not require treatment, especially if it does not interfere with sexual function.
It is also worth noting that self-examination and research can sometimes lead to unnecessary anxiety. If you are concerned about the appearance or function of your penis, a visit to a urologist can provide clarity and peace of mind. They can perform a physical examination and, if necessary, imaging studies to assess the structure of your penis and determine if any treatment is needed.
In conclusion, while some curvature and indentations can be normal, it is crucial to monitor any changes and seek medical advice if you experience pain, difficulty with erections, or psychological distress. Open communication with a healthcare provider can help address your concerns and ensure your sexual health is maintained.
