What side effects should be noted for Hepatitis B (Liver) injection?
I previously wrote to you: Hello Doctor...
I had an index of over 300 and took Gan An Neng for more than a year, during which my HBeAg turned negative.
After taking it for another six months, I stopped the medication.
Three months after stopping, my HBeAg was also negative with an index around 80.
However, three months later, today my index skyrocketed to GPT 720, and a week later it reached GPT 960.
My dad took me to see his friend, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, who immediately gave me an injection.
I was quite confused about it.
The injection is called Hepatitis Ling Injection, and its main ingredient is Sophora flavescens, made in Hunan, China.
Strangely enough, after three days of one injection per day, I felt much better; I was on the verge of fainting before.
My dad's friend, who has liver cancer, has been fine for several years after using it.
I would like to know if it has side effects and what I should pay attention to.
The website for the medication is http://www.cdeinfo.ac.cn/open2003.asp?id=1425.
The doctor said to take one injection a day for ten days, then switch to one injection a week for maintenance, and it's inexpensive—only 67 RMB for ten injections in China.
I really don't know what to do; taking Gan An Neng has not been effective.
I think Gan Shi Neng and Bei Le Ke would ultimately yield the same result: stopping the medication leads to a relapse, and it’s even more severe.
I'm only 28 years old; if I develop resistance to Bei Le Ke, I would only be 35.
I'm trying traditional Chinese medicine to see if it helps.
Doctor, do you think I can use this medication, or should I continue with Gan An Neng? My attending physician advised me to take both Gan An Neng and Gan Shi Neng simultaneously.
Since my HBeAg is currently negative, I have to pay a lot out of pocket...
Sigh, is it possible that I cannot produce antibodies myself? Why can others do it, but I cannot? I'm so frustrated! My child is still young...
I really feel unwilling to accept this.

Hello! The medications mentioned from mainland China do not have clear evidence regarding their effectiveness, so I cannot provide appropriate recommendations.
Generally, the efficacy of Tenofovir or Entecavir is significantly better than that of Adefovir, so one should not assume that other medications are ineffective just because Adefovir is not effective.
There has been no scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine in treating Hepatitis B, so its use is not encouraged.
In fact, once a person in Taiwan becomes a carrier, the likelihood of remaining a lifelong carrier is very high.

When considering the use of Hepatitis Ling Injection, which contains the ingredient Sophora flavescens (山豆根), it is essential to approach this treatment with caution, especially for individuals with a history of hepatitis B. While some anecdotal evidence suggests that patients have experienced improvements after receiving this injection, the scientific backing for its efficacy and safety is limited.
Firstly, it is crucial to understand that the treatment of hepatitis B typically involves antiviral medications such as entecavir or tenofovir, which have been extensively studied and are known to effectively suppress the virus and improve liver function. The medications you mentioned, such as干安能 (possibly referring to a brand of antiviral medication), are standard treatments for hepatitis B. If these medications have not been effective for you, it is essential to discuss this with your healthcare provider rather than resorting to unverified treatments.
Regarding the side effects of Hepatitis Ling Injection, there is limited clinical data available. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) often employs herbal remedies, but the safety and efficacy of these treatments are not always supported by rigorous scientific research. Potential side effects could include allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, or interactions with other medications you may be taking. Given your history of hepatitis B and the medications you are currently using, it is vital to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment, including herbal injections.
In your case, the rapid increase in your liver enzyme levels (GOT and GPT) is concerning. Elevated liver enzymes can indicate ongoing liver inflammation or damage, which may be exacerbated by the introduction of new treatments without proper medical supervision. It is also important to note that the presence of e-antigen and its subsequent disappearance can indicate changes in viral activity, but it does not necessarily correlate with the effectiveness of treatment or the ability to produce antibodies.
You mentioned feeling frustrated and hopeless about your situation, especially considering your young age and responsibilities. It is understandable to feel this way when facing chronic health issues. However, it is crucial to remain in close communication with your healthcare provider. They can help you navigate your treatment options, monitor your liver function, and adjust your medications as necessary.
If you are considering alternative treatments, such as Hepatitis Ling Injection, please ensure that you discuss this with your doctor. They can provide guidance on the potential risks and benefits and help you make an informed decision. It is also worth exploring support groups or counseling services that can help you cope with the emotional aspects of living with a chronic illness.
In summary, while some individuals may report positive experiences with Hepatitis Ling Injection, the lack of scientific evidence and potential risks associated with its use warrant caution. Always prioritize treatments that are backed by clinical research and maintain open communication with your healthcare provider to ensure the best possible outcomes for your health.
