Breast Issues: What to Do About Unusual Growths - Breast and Thyroid

Breast issues

Some time ago, I discovered a growth on my breast.
I thought it was a pimple, so I squeezed it, and it seemed like a small black object came out.
After that, there was a mark on my breast (with a brown outer area and a white center).
Recently, I found a similar growth on the other breast, with the same situation.
Is this a cause for concern? Is it serious? When I squeeze the nipple, there are white, flaky substances that resemble lint, and some are tiny, granular particles.
What could this be? I'm feeling very scared.

Dr. Wu Jingtang reply Breast and Thyroid

Dear Miss Nancy, your condition is more likely to be a sebaceous adenoma.
There is no need to worry too much at this moment.
If necessary, please consult a general surgeon or a breast surgeon.
Wishing you good health, Dr.
Wu.

When it comes to unusual growths or changes in the breast, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and seek professional medical advice. Based on your description, it seems you have noticed some unusual changes in your breasts, including the appearance of small growths or spots, and you have also experienced some discharge that resembles small white particles.
Firstly, it is important to understand that the breast tissue is complex and can undergo various changes due to hormonal fluctuations, age, and other factors. The presence of small lumps or growths can be attributed to several benign conditions, such as cysts, fibroadenomas, or even normal glandular tissue changes. However, the fact that you have noticed these changes and that they are accompanied by discharge warrants a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional.

The black or dark spots you mentioned could potentially be sebaceous cysts or other types of benign skin lesions. These are generally harmless but can become inflamed or infected if manipulated excessively, such as through squeezing. The presence of a coffee-colored center with a white outer ring could indicate a variety of skin conditions, including a clogged pore or an inflamed cyst. It is crucial to avoid squeezing or picking at these areas, as this can lead to irritation or infection.

The white, flaky discharge you described could be related to several factors, including keratin buildup, which is a common occurrence in the skin, or it could be related to the normal function of the mammary glands. However, if this discharge is persistent, changes in color, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or changes in the skin texture, it is vital to seek medical attention.

In terms of what to do next, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider, preferably a breast specialist or a gynecologist, who can perform a physical examination and possibly recommend imaging studies such as an ultrasound or mammogram if deemed necessary. These tests can help determine the nature of the growths and whether any further action is needed.

Additionally, it is essential to keep track of any changes in your breasts, including the size, shape, or texture of the growths, as well as any new symptoms that may arise. Keeping a record of these changes can provide valuable information to your healthcare provider during your visit.

In conclusion, while many breast changes are benign and not a cause for concern, it is always best to err on the side of caution. Seeking professional medical advice will help you understand the nature of the changes you are experiencing and provide peace of mind. Remember, early evaluation and intervention are key to addressing any potential issues effectively.
