Thank you, Dr.
Tsao, for your response to my previous question.
Since I subconsciously ruled out the possibility of pregnancy, I had a blood test done at my family medicine clinic on May 15.
The doctor believes that my symptoms of dizziness, fatigue, weakness in my limbs, nausea, and lack of appetite are caused by anemia.
However, I still feel that these symptoms and the amount of my menstrual flow this time are quite abnormal, so I decided to take a home pregnancy test, which came back positive.
Oh my God! My last menstrual period was around March 29, 30, or 31; I'm not sure which day it was, but on the morning of April 17, I had a tooth extraction.
My clotting was not good, and it wasn't until the next day that I could stop biting down on the gauze (typically, after a tooth extraction, one only needs to bite down on the gauze for about an hour).
After the extraction, the doctor prescribed two days' worth of painkillers and antibiotics without a prescription, and I'm not sure what the generic names of those medications are.
Could they affect the fetus? If I do not want to continue the pregnancy, can I choose to have an abortion? Can this be handled in a regular outpatient clinic, or do I need to make a separate appointment?

Hello, if you are pregnant and do not wish to continue the pregnancy, you can choose to undergo a surgical abortion or a medical abortion.
You may schedule an appointment with an obstetrician-gynecologist.

Understanding pregnancy concerns and options for women’s health is crucial, especially when faced with unexpected situations. Your experience highlights several important aspects of pregnancy, health management, and the emotional challenges that can arise during this time.
Firstly, it’s essential to address your health concerns. You mentioned symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and nausea, which were initially attributed to anemia. These symptoms can indeed be common in early pregnancy, but they can also indicate other health issues. It’s vital to follow up with your healthcare provider to ensure that both your anemia and any other potential complications are managed effectively. Anemia during pregnancy can lead to fatigue and other complications, so it’s important to address this with appropriate dietary changes or supplements as recommended by your doctor.
Regarding the medications you took after your dental procedure, it’s understandable to be concerned about their effects on your pregnancy. Many medications can have varying impacts on fetal development, depending on the timing and dosage. Generally, antibiotics and pain relievers are categorized based on their safety during pregnancy. It’s advisable to consult your healthcare provider about the specific medications you took, as they can provide guidance on any potential risks and whether further monitoring is needed for your pregnancy.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are considering terminating the pregnancy, it’s important to know that there are options available. In the United States, medical abortion can often be performed in a clinic or through a healthcare provider’s office, depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy. It’s crucial to seek care from a qualified healthcare provider who can discuss your options, the procedures involved, and any potential risks or side effects. They can also provide emotional support and counseling, which is an important aspect of making such a decision.
In addition to the physical health concerns, the emotional and psychological aspects of an unexpected pregnancy can be significant. Feelings of anxiety, fear, or uncertainty are common, and it’s important to acknowledge these feelings. Seeking support from friends, family, or mental health professionals can be beneficial. Many women find that talking about their feelings and concerns helps them process their situation and make informed decisions.
Moreover, if you are considering continuing the pregnancy, it’s essential to establish a supportive healthcare team. Regular prenatal care is vital for monitoring both your health and the development of your baby. Your healthcare provider can guide you through necessary lifestyle adjustments, nutritional needs, and any additional screenings or tests that may be required.
In summary, your situation underscores the importance of proactive health management during pregnancy. Whether you choose to continue the pregnancy or consider termination, it’s crucial to seek guidance from healthcare professionals who can provide the necessary support and information. Remember, you are not alone in this journey, and there are resources available to help you navigate your options and make the best decision for your health and well-being.
