Sensation of a foreign body in the throat... slight discomfort while breathing?
Recently, I experienced a sensation of a foreign body in my throat, which disappeared for a few days but has now returned.
I feel it when swallowing saliva.
Today, I also have a strange feeling in my lungs when breathing; it’s not exactly shortness of breath, but it feels a bit uncomfortable.
What could this be? Should I see an otolaryngologist, or should I visit the doctor I usually see for colds, who is an orthopedic specialist?

When experiencing a sensation of a foreign body in the throat, especially if it recurs or is accompanied by other symptoms such as unusual feelings in the lungs, it is important to consider a few factors before deciding on the appropriate course of action.
Firstly, the sensation of a foreign body in the throat can be caused by various conditions, including allergies, infections, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or even anxiety. If the sensation has disappeared and then returned, it may suggest a transient issue, but the recurrence warrants further investigation. The additional symptom of feeling "off" when breathing, even if not severe, could indicate an underlying issue that might need to be addressed.
Given your history of seeing an orthopedic doctor for general health issues, it would be more appropriate to consult with an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. ENT specialists are trained to diagnose and treat conditions related to the throat, including those that may cause a sensation of something being stuck. They can perform a thorough examination, which may include a laryngoscopy to visualize the throat and identify any abnormalities.
If you are experiencing discomfort while swallowing or breathing, it is advisable to seek medical attention sooner rather than later. While it may not be an emergency, persistent symptoms can lead to complications if left untreated. An ENT specialist can provide a more accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment options, which may include medication for inflammation, allergy management, or lifestyle changes if GERD is suspected.
In summary, while it might be tempting to consult your usual doctor, an ENT specialist is better equipped to handle throat-related issues. If symptoms persist or worsen, do not hesitate to seek medical advice promptly. Early intervention can lead to better outcomes and alleviate any discomfort you may be experiencing.
