Severe cold
Hello, doctor.
I have been suffering from a cold since February 11th (now February 27th), which has lasted for over two weeks.
Initially, I only had a sore throat and fever, but later I developed a cough, runny nose, headache, and dizziness.
I have seen four doctors and have taken Augmentin, amoxicillin, and erythromycin.
Currently, I am taking clindamycin.
Today, I visited an ENT specialist who diagnosed me with sinusitis.
My nasal discharge is thick and yellow, and my throat is still swollen...
I am coughing, and instead of improving, my condition seems to be worsening.
I suspect my immune system is weak.
Additionally, I have developed a Candida infection in my lower body.
What should I do? Furthermore, the doctor prescribed me diazepam, but I do not have epilepsy, depression, significant anxiety, or insomnia...
why was this medication prescribed? Duration of symptoms: February 11th to present.
Additional notes: Is sinusitis difficult to treat? Also, it feels like my ears are blocked with air, and it feels strange...

Hello, acute sinusitis is mostly caused by a bacterial infection and typically requires 1-2 weeks of treatment with effective antibiotics.
Based on your description, it does seem to align with acute sinusitis.
I recommend that you closely monitor your condition and inform your physician about the medications you are using, so they can make the correct choices regarding your treatment.
Additionally, do not stop or change the frequency of your medication without consulting your doctor, as this could lead to antibiotic resistance.
If your symptoms persist, consider visiting a hospital to check for possible polyps or other causes of sinus blockage.
The feeling of ear fullness is related to Eustachian tube dysfunction (which connects the middle ear to the nasopharynx).
You should recover once the sinusitis is resolved!

It sounds like you have been experiencing a challenging and prolonged illness, and I appreciate your detailed description of your symptoms and treatment history. Based on what you've shared, it appears that you are dealing with sinusitis, which is an inflammation of the sinuses that can occur after a cold or respiratory infection. The symptoms you describe, including a persistent cough, thick yellow nasal discharge, and a feeling of pressure in your ears, are consistent with sinusitis.
Sinusitis can be classified into acute and chronic forms. Acute sinusitis typically follows a viral upper respiratory infection and can last for a few weeks, while chronic sinusitis can persist for months or even longer. The presence of thick, discolored nasal mucus, facial pain or pressure, and fever can indicate a bacterial infection, which may require antibiotic treatment. You mentioned that you've been prescribed several antibiotics, including Augmentin, amoxicillin, erythromycin, and currently, clindamycin. If your symptoms have not improved with these treatments, it may be worth discussing with your ENT specialist the possibility of a different underlying issue or the need for further diagnostic testing, such as imaging studies or nasal endoscopy.
In terms of your immune system, if you are experiencing recurrent infections or prolonged symptoms, it may be beneficial to evaluate your overall health and immune function. Factors such as stress, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, and underlying health conditions can all impact your immune response. Additionally, the mention of a yeast infection suggests that your body may be experiencing an imbalance, possibly due to antibiotic use, which can disrupt the normal flora and lead to overgrowth of yeast.
Regarding the prescription of diazepam, this medication is a benzodiazepine that is often used to treat anxiety, muscle spasms, and seizures. While you mentioned that you do not have anxiety or other related conditions, it is possible that your doctor prescribed it to help with muscle relaxation or to alleviate any discomfort associated with your sinusitis. However, if you feel that this medication is not appropriate for your situation, it is essential to communicate your concerns with your physician. They can provide clarification on the rationale behind the prescription and explore alternative options if necessary.
As for the treatment of sinusitis, here are some general recommendations:
1. Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids to help thin mucus and promote drainage.
2. Steam Inhalation: Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot water or taking a hot shower can help relieve nasal congestion and sinus pressure.
3. Saline Nasal Irrigation: Using a saline solution to rinse your nasal passages can help clear mucus and allergens.
4. Over-the-Counter Medications: Decongestants and antihistamines may provide symptom relief, but consult your doctor before using them, especially if you have other health conditions.
5. Rest: Ensure you are getting adequate rest to support your immune system.
6. Follow-Up Care: If symptoms persist or worsen, further evaluation by an ENT specialist may be necessary. They may consider options such as imaging studies or even surgical intervention if there are structural issues contributing to your sinusitis.
In summary, while sinusitis can be challenging to treat, especially if it becomes chronic or recurrent, there are various strategies and treatments available. It is crucial to maintain open communication with your healthcare providers to ensure that your treatment plan is tailored to your specific needs and circumstances. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your healthcare team for guidance.
