There is a lump beside the base of the penis?

I have a lump on the skin where my penis and scrotum meet, located on the pubic hair area.
It feels a bit hard when I squeeze it, and it hurts when I touch it.
What could this be? Is it cancer?

When it comes to painful bumps near the penis, particularly in the area where the penis meets the scrotum, there are several potential causes to consider. It's understandable to be concerned about the possibility of cancer, but it's important to remember that not all lumps or bumps in this area are indicative of a serious condition.
One common cause of painful bumps in this region is folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. This can occur due to bacterial infection, irritation, or blockage of the follicles. Folliculitis can lead to red, painful bumps that may feel hard to the touch. Another possibility is a sebaceous cyst, which is a non-cancerous lump that can form when a sebaceous gland becomes blocked. These cysts can be tender and may become inflamed or infected, leading to pain.

Additionally, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as herpes or genital warts can also present as painful bumps in the genital area. Herpes typically appears as small, fluid-filled blisters that can be painful and may be accompanied by other symptoms like itching or burning. Genital warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), can appear as small, flesh-colored or gray bumps that may be tender.

In some cases, a condition known as Peyronie's disease can cause the formation of fibrous scar tissue in the penis, leading to lumps and pain, particularly during erections. This condition is often associated with curvature of the penis and can be distressing for those affected.

While cancer is a possibility, especially if the lump persists, changes in size, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms (such as weight loss, changes in urination, or bleeding), it is relatively rare in this context. Skin cancers, such as squamous cell carcinoma, can occur in the genital area, but they typically present differently and are often associated with other risk factors, such as prolonged sun exposure or a history of HPV.

Given your symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical evaluation from a healthcare professional, preferably a urologist or dermatologist. They can perform a physical examination, take a detailed medical history, and may recommend further tests, such as a biopsy, if there is any suspicion of a serious condition.
In the meantime, avoid any irritation to the area, such as tight clothing or harsh soaps, and refrain from any sexual activity until you have been evaluated. If you notice any changes in the lump, such as increased size, changes in color, or if it becomes increasingly painful, seek medical attention promptly.

In summary, while painful bumps near the penis can be concerning, they are often due to benign conditions such as folliculitis, cysts, or STIs. However, a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential to determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment. Your health and peace of mind are paramount, so do not hesitate to seek help.
