Dear Doctor: My mother is 60 years old and has been having difficulty sleeping for the past two years.
When necessary, she takes sleeping pills to help her sleep.
Recently, she has been drinking a small glass of red wine (about 20cc) before bed, which allows her to fall asleep without relying on medication.
However, she has a history of chronic hypertension and regularly takes antihypertensive medication.
