I have an appointment scheduled for 970830 but am unable to attend the follow-up in person. Is it possible to receive a response online?
I had a follow-up appointment on August 16, 1997, and I scheduled another appointment for the morning of August 30, 1997, under number 95.
However, I have a commitment on August 30 and will be unable to attend the appointment.
I also cannot ask a family member to inquire about the results since the follow-up is just to check the blood test results and whether I should continue my medication.
Could I kindly request Dr.
Yang to respond online regarding whether I need to continue the medication? I still have a few pills left and will continue taking them for now.
If there are any payment issues with this online consultation, I will not be able to return for another appointment until after September 13, and I will make the payment then.
I understand that this request may not be very reasonable, but your hospital no longer offers consultations at night, and by the beginning of the month, online appointments are already fully booked.
On the morning of August 16, I arrived on-site and had to take a number (98) to complete the waiting process, and I was only able to see the doctor at 2:00 PM, which was quite inconvenient.
I have been under the care of Dr.
Yang Hong-Zhi for my thyroid condition for about 10 years.
I kindly ask for your understanding regarding this request.
Thank you!
Chen, 40~49 year old female. Ask Date: 2008/08/27
Dr. Yang Hongzhi reply Internal Medicine
Thyroid function tests conducted on August 16 were normal; current management can continue as is.

More Info
It seems you are facing a challenging situation regarding your health and the management of your medical appointments. I understand that you have a scheduled follow-up appointment on August 30th, but due to unforeseen circumstances, you are unable to attend. You are also concerned about the continuity of your medication based on your blood test results, and you are seeking an online consultation with Dr. Yang to discuss whether you should continue your medication.
Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that managing chronic health conditions, such as thyroid disorders, can be stressful, especially when it comes to maintaining regular appointments and ensuring that you receive the necessary care. Your request for an online consultation is reasonable, particularly given the difficulties you have encountered with scheduling and the long wait times at the clinic.
In many healthcare systems, telemedicine has become a valuable tool for patients who cannot attend in-person appointments. It allows for timely consultations and can help address urgent questions about treatment plans, medication management, and test results. Given your situation, I recommend the following steps:
1. Contact the Clinic Directly: Reach out to the clinic where Dr. Yang practices. Explain your situation clearly, emphasizing your long-term relationship with the doctor and the urgency of your request. Many clinics have protocols for handling such requests, especially for patients with chronic conditions.
2. Request for Telehealth Options: Inquire if the clinic offers telehealth services. If they do, ask if Dr. Yang can provide a brief online consultation to discuss your blood test results and medication. This can often be done through a secure messaging system or a video call.
3. Medication Management: If you have a few pills left and are unsure about continuing your medication, it is crucial to get guidance from your healthcare provider. Thyroid medications often require consistent dosing, and any changes should be made under medical supervision. If you cannot get an immediate response from Dr. Yang, consider reaching out to another healthcare provider at the clinic who may be able to assist you.
4. Payment and Insurance Considerations: If there are concerns about payment for the online consultation, clarify this with the clinic. Many healthcare providers have flexible payment options or can bill your insurance for telehealth services. Make sure to discuss this aspect when you contact them.
5. Follow-Up Plan: If you are unable to get an online consultation before your next scheduled appointment, make a plan to follow up as soon as you are able. Document any symptoms or concerns you have in the meantime, as this information will be valuable for your healthcare provider when you do meet.
6. Patient Advocacy: If you continue to face challenges in accessing care, consider reaching out to a patient advocacy group or a healthcare ombudsman. They can provide support and guidance on navigating the healthcare system.
In conclusion, while it may feel inconvenient and frustrating to manage your healthcare needs, taking proactive steps to communicate with your provider and explore telehealth options can help ensure that you receive the necessary care. Your health is important, and it’s essential to keep the lines of communication open with your healthcare team. Best of luck, and I hope you find a resolution that works for you.
