Shoulder and neck?

There is a hard lump (very hard) when pressing down on the area where the shoulder and neck connect.
Also, what is the name of the triangular area between the clavicle and the shoulder? Because when I press there, I can also feel a protruding hard lump that is not visible from the surface!

When it comes to hard lumps in the neck and shoulder area, there are several potential causes and considerations to keep in mind. The area you are referring to, located between the clavicle (collarbone) and the shoulder, is often referred to as the supraclavicular fossa. This triangular region can be a site of various anatomical structures, including muscles, lymph nodes, and other soft tissues.
The hard lump you are feeling could be attributed to several factors. One common cause is the presence of a lymph node that has become enlarged due to infection, inflammation, or other underlying conditions. Lymph nodes can swell in response to infections, such as a cold or throat infection, or due to more serious conditions like lymphoma. Another possibility is the presence of a muscle knot or trigger point, which can occur due to muscle strain, overuse, or poor posture. These knots can feel hard and tender to the touch and are often associated with conditions like myofascial pain syndrome.

In some cases, the hard lump could also be a benign growth, such as a lipoma (a fatty tumor) or a fibroma (a fibrous tissue tumor). While these are generally harmless, they can cause discomfort or concern if they grow large enough or are located in a sensitive area.
If the lump is accompanied by pain, tenderness, or other symptoms such as swelling or changes in skin color, it is essential to seek medical evaluation. A healthcare provider may perform a physical examination and may recommend imaging studies, such as an ultrasound or MRI, to assess the lump's characteristics and determine the appropriate course of action.

In terms of management, if the lump is determined to be a benign condition, treatment may not be necessary unless it causes significant discomfort. In cases of muscle knots, physical therapy, stretching exercises, and heat application can be beneficial. If the lump is related to an infection or inflammation, addressing the underlying cause with appropriate medications may be necessary.

It is also important to consider lifestyle factors that may contribute to muscle tension and discomfort in the neck and shoulder area. Stress, poor posture, and prolonged periods of sitting or repetitive movements can exacerbate muscle tightness and lead to the formation of trigger points. Incorporating regular breaks, ergonomic adjustments, and relaxation techniques can help alleviate tension and prevent the recurrence of muscle knots.

In summary, while hard lumps in the neck and shoulder area can arise from various causes, it is crucial to have any concerning lumps evaluated by a healthcare professional. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment options based on the underlying cause. If you experience persistent pain, swelling, or changes in the lump's characteristics, do not hesitate to seek medical attention for further evaluation.
