Hair loss issues

I am a female college student studying in Hsinchu.
Recently, I have been experiencing severe hair loss for the past month, and my scalp is becoming visibly exposed, which has been quite distressing.
I live in central Taiwan and visited a large hospital near my home during the winter break.
The doctor prescribed TOPSYM LOTION for me to apply, but I feel that it has not been effective, and my hair continues to fall out.
Now that school has started again, I have returned to Hsinchu, and to avoid the hassle of traveling back and forth, I would like to know if your hospital offers consultations for this type of condition?

Dr. Huang Ruiyun reply Dermatology

Hello: Yes, you can make an appointment with the dermatology department.
You can register online at www.hch.gov.tw.
However, if this is your first visit to our hospital, you will still need to check in at the front desk on the day of your appointment to verify your identity and enter your basic information before proceeding to the consultation room.
Wishing you peace and good health.

Severe hair loss can be a distressing experience, especially for a young student like yourself. It’s understandable to feel anxious about the changes in your hair, particularly when it seems to be thinning significantly. Let's explore the potential causes of your hair loss, possible solutions, and the importance of seeking professional help.

Firstly, hair loss can be attributed to a variety of factors, including genetics, stress, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, and certain medical conditions. Given your age and the fact that you are a student, stress may play a significant role in your situation. The pressures of academic life, coupled with any personal stressors, can lead to a condition known as telogen effluvium, where hair follicles enter a resting phase and subsequently shed more than usual.
Additionally, if there is a family history of hair loss, particularly androgenetic alopecia (commonly known as male or female pattern baldness), this could also be a contributing factor. It’s important to consider your family history when assessing your risk for hereditary hair loss.

Regarding your current treatment with TOPSYM LOTION, it’s worth noting that while topical treatments can be effective for some individuals, they may not work for everyone. If you have been using it for a while without noticeable improvement, it may be time to consult with a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss. They can provide a more thorough evaluation of your scalp and hair condition, and suggest alternative treatments that may be more effective for you.

In terms of dietary and lifestyle changes, maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is crucial for hair health. Nutrients such as biotin, zinc, iron, and vitamins A, C, D, and E are essential for hair growth. Incorporating foods like leafy greens, nuts, seeds, fish, and lean proteins can help support your hair health. Additionally, staying hydrated and managing stress through relaxation techniques, exercise, or mindfulness practices can also contribute positively to your overall well-being and potentially reduce hair loss.

If you are concerned about the accessibility of dermatological care in Hsinchu, many hospitals and clinics offer specialized services for hair loss. It would be beneficial to research local dermatologists or hair specialists who can provide a comprehensive assessment and tailored treatment plan. Some clinics may also offer advanced treatments such as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy, which has shown promise in stimulating hair growth.

In conclusion, while experiencing severe hair loss can be alarming, it is essential to approach the situation with a proactive mindset. Seek a consultation with a qualified dermatologist who can evaluate your specific condition and recommend appropriate treatments. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, so don’t hesitate to seek help. Your hair health is important, and with the right support and treatment, you can work towards finding a solution that helps restore your confidence.
