Menstruation
I have an irregular period this month.
I have been experiencing chest tightness, so my mom bought me a herbal remedy called Tie Niu Yun Gong San and suggested I try it (which I took last month).
Coincidentally, my period stopped at that time, but the next day I had brown discharge, which might have been leftover from my previous period.
I told my mom, and she advised me to stop taking it.
I bled for about a week, and then it stopped.
Could this be the reason my period hasn't come yet, or could I be pregnant? However, I haven't had any sexual intercourse with a guy.
I'm really worried—could I really be pregnant? Also, why does my stomach feel like it's fluttering, almost like a heartbeat? Please provide me with answers to ease my mind.
Thank you.

(1) The most common cause of irregular menstruation is hormonal imbalance, often due to poor ovarian function leading to abnormal female hormone levels.
The second reason, of course, is pregnancy.
(2) I recommend that you first take a pregnancy test.
If the result is negative, then proceed with hormonal evaluations.
(3) Regarding the ingredients of Iron Yuen Gong San, I am not familiar with it and cannot determine whether it is related to irregular menstruation.

More Info
Irregular menstrual cycles can be a source of concern for many women, and understanding the underlying causes is essential for addressing any potential health issues. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing some irregularities in your menstrual cycle, along with symptoms such as chest discomfort and unusual bleeding patterns. Let's break down the possible causes and concerns regarding your situation.
Understanding Irregular Periods
Irregular periods can be attributed to a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, stress, changes in lifestyle, and underlying medical conditions. In your case, you mentioned experiencing chest discomfort and taking a supplement (iron powder) that may have influenced your menstrual cycle. It's important to note that any significant changes in your routine, including diet, exercise, and stress levels, can affect your menstrual cycle.
1. Hormonal Imbalances: Hormones play a crucial role in regulating the menstrual cycle. Fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels can lead to irregular periods. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid disorders can also cause hormonal imbalances, resulting in irregular cycles.
2. Stress and Lifestyle Changes: Stress is a well-known factor that can disrupt the menstrual cycle. Changes in your daily routine, such as increased workload or emotional stress, can lead to missed periods or irregular bleeding. Additionally, significant weight loss or gain, excessive exercise, or changes in sleep patterns can also impact your menstrual health.
3. Pregnancy Concerns: You expressed concern about the possibility of pregnancy, even though you mentioned not engaging in penetrative intercourse. It's important to clarify that pregnancy can occur even with minimal sexual contact if sperm comes into contact with the vaginal area. If you are experiencing symptoms such as missed periods, nausea, or breast tenderness, it may be wise to take a home pregnancy test for reassurance.
4. Unusual Bleeding Patterns: The coffee-colored discharge you experienced could indicate old blood being expelled from your body, which is not uncommon at the beginning or end of a menstrual cycle. However, if this pattern continues or if you experience heavy bleeding, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying issues, such as fibroids or endometriosis.
Addressing Your Symptoms
The sensation of your abdomen "jumping" or feeling like it's beating could be related to various factors, including anxiety, muscle spasms, or gastrointestinal issues. If this sensation persists or is accompanied by pain, it would be prudent to seek medical advice.
Recommendations
1. Monitor Your Cycle: Keep a detailed record of your menstrual cycle, including the dates, flow, and any accompanying symptoms. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider in diagnosing any potential issues.
2. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If your irregular periods continue, or if you have concerns about pregnancy or other symptoms, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional. They can perform necessary tests, such as blood work or ultrasounds, to assess your hormonal levels and overall reproductive health.
3. Manage Stress: Consider incorporating stress-reducing activities into your routine, such as yoga, meditation, or regular exercise. These practices can help regulate your menstrual cycle and improve your overall well-being.
4. Nutrition and Supplements: If you are taking supplements, ensure they are appropriate for your needs. Discuss with a healthcare provider whether you should continue or adjust your intake of iron or other supplements.
In conclusion, while irregular periods can be concerning, many factors can contribute to this condition. By monitoring your symptoms, seeking medical advice, and managing stress, you can take proactive steps toward understanding and improving your menstrual health. Remember, open communication with your healthcare provider is key to addressing any concerns you may have.
