Question about keratinization of the glans and sensitivity?

Hello, this is my first time using a medical consultation service, and I have some questions: In the past, during my junior high and high school years, I did not pay much attention to the care of my genitalia, which has led to an addiction to masturbation and the exposure of my glans, resulting in keratinization of the glans.
Aside from reducing masturbation and minimizing the time the glans is exposed (currently, I masturbate every other day, and the glans is generally half-exposed), are there any other external methods that can accelerate the recovery process? I am also often concerned that in the future, I may experience issues with decreased sensitivity.
Is low sensitivity related to the keratinization of the glans? Additionally, I have some extra questions: my current penis length is 16 cm, and the width is between 4.5 to 5.5 cm.
Is there still a chance for "natural" growth? Would visiting a urologist in person provide me with greater medical support? Thank you for your answers.

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology

Hello Mr.
T, the keratinization of the glans can gradually improve with appropriate rest.
As for whether it is caused by masturbation or exposure of the glans, further information is needed for identification.
You can apply some baby oil for maintenance.
Additionally, absolutely avoid using hot water or any cleaning products (such as soap or Savlon) to clean the glans; using regular cold or lukewarm water is sufficient.
Your length should be within the normal range.

Understanding glans keratinization and sensitivity issues in men is an important topic that touches on both physiological and psychological aspects of male sexual health. Keratinization of the glans, or the head of the penis, can occur due to various factors, including friction from sexual activity, lack of proper hygiene, or prolonged exposure to irritants. This condition can lead to a thickening of the skin, which may reduce sensitivity and alter the sexual experience.

To address your concerns, reducing the frequency of masturbation and minimizing the exposure of the glans can indeed help in reversing keratinization. This is because less friction allows the skin to return to its normal state, potentially increasing sensitivity over time. However, there are additional strategies you can consider to promote recovery:
1. Gentle Hygiene Practices: Maintain proper hygiene by gently cleaning the area with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh soaps or chemicals that can irritate the sensitive skin of the glans.

2. Moisturization: Applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer can help keep the skin hydrated and may assist in softening any thickened areas. Look for products specifically designed for sensitive skin.

3. Avoid Irritants: Steer clear of products that may cause irritation, such as scented lotions, lubricants, or condoms with added fragrances or textures.

4. Patience and Time: Recovery from keratinization can take time. It's essential to be patient and allow your body to heal naturally.

Regarding your concern about sensitivity, it is indeed possible that keratinization can lead to decreased sensitivity. The thickened skin may not respond as readily to stimulation, which can affect sexual pleasure. However, as the keratinization resolves, sensitivity may improve.

As for your questions about penile size, it is important to note that most males reach their full size during puberty, and significant natural growth after this period is unlikely. However, if you have concerns about your size or any other aspect of your sexual health, consulting a urologist can provide you with personalized advice and potential treatment options. Urologists can offer a range of services, including assessments for any underlying conditions, discussions about sexual health, and options for enhancing sexual function or addressing concerns about size.

In summary, addressing glans keratinization involves a combination of reducing friction, maintaining proper hygiene, and being patient as your body heals. Sensitivity issues may improve as the keratinization resolves. If you have ongoing concerns about your sexual health or anatomy, seeking professional medical advice from a urologist is a wise step. They can provide tailored recommendations and support to help you achieve optimal sexual health.
