Curved Penises: Is It Normal and What Are Your Options? - Urology

Regarding a curved penis?

My penis has been curved to the left since I was young, and this is noticeable even when it is not erect, particularly at the glans.
When lying down, even if I pull it to the right, it still rests against my left thigh when I let go, and when erect, it protrudes to the left side of my pants.
Is this normal? Will it affect sexual intercourse? If surgery is needed, how much would it cost? Are there any potential complications?

Curvature can actually be quite beautiful.
In our practice, we rarely see a perfectly straight line; it's usually either left-leaning or right-leaning, with left-leaning being more common.
Essentially, as long as an erection does not interfere with sexual function, it's considered a perfect score.
However, if the curvature significantly affects function, please consult a urologist at a hospital for an evaluation.

Understanding the curvature of the penis, particularly when it is noticeable even when flaccid, is a common concern among many men. A penis that curves to one side, especially if it has been this way since childhood, is often considered a normal anatomical variation. However, it is essential to differentiate between a natural curve and a condition known as Peyronie's disease, which involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, causing painful erections and significant curvature.

In your case, since the curvature has been present since childhood and does not seem to cause pain or discomfort during erections, it is likely a benign condition. Many men have some degree of curvature, and as long as it does not interfere with sexual function or cause pain, it is generally not a cause for concern. The fact that you can achieve an erection and engage in sexual activity without discomfort suggests that the curvature is not significantly impacting your sexual health.

However, if you find that the curvature is affecting your sexual performance or causing psychological distress, it may be worth discussing with a urologist. They can assess whether the curvature is within a normal range or if it requires further investigation.
Regarding surgical options, procedures to correct penile curvature can vary widely in terms of cost and potential complications. Surgical interventions, such as plication or grafting techniques, can be performed to straighten the penis. The costs for these surgeries can range from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the healthcare facility. It is crucial to consult with a qualified urologist to discuss the specific surgical options available, their costs, and the potential risks involved.

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks of complications, including infection, changes in penile sensation, and the possibility of erectile dysfunction. The likelihood of these complications can vary based on individual health factors and the specific surgical technique used. Therefore, it is essential to have a thorough discussion with your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of surgery, as well as any alternative treatments that may be available.

In summary, a curved penis, especially one that has been present since childhood and does not cause pain or functional issues, is typically normal. If you have concerns about how this curvature affects your sexual health or self-esteem, consulting a urologist can provide you with personalized advice and treatment options. Always prioritize open communication with your healthcare provider to ensure that you make informed decisions regarding your health and well-being.

No penis is absolutely 100% straight when flaccid; there is always some degree of curvature. As long as it does not interfere with sexual activity, there is no need to worry. However, if it does cause difficulties, it is advisable to consult a urologist.
